This Is The Day?

This Is The Day?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who say, “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” In Jesus’ name, amen.

Matt Johnson wrote the song “This Is The Day.”

He based the song on Psalm 118:24 (ESV).

“This is the day that the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

The first verse of Matt’s song is as follows:

“This is the day, this is the day
that the Lord has made,
that the Lord has made.
We will rejoice, we will rejoice
and be glad in it, and be glad in it.
This is the day that the Lord has made;
we will rejoice and be glad in it.
This is the day, this is the day
that the Lord has made.”

Some people are facing difficult circumstances. Therefore, those individuals may not feel like rejoicing. Yet, for believers, this verse provides a ray of hope. The verse and the song’s lyrics remind us that God makes each day. He has given us another day of life. To that end, whatever your circumstance, rejoice.

Who Is The Cornerstone?

Who Is The Cornerstone?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know the stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Act 4:11 (ESV) tells us, “This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone.”

The verse in Acts refers back to Psalm 118: 22-23 (ESV). It is followed by a verse of affirmation.

“The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.
This is the Lord’s doing;
it is marvelous in our eyes.”

Recognize Jesus for he is. Although he was rejected and died on the cross, he was resurrected and now sits at the right hand of God the Father.

Songs of Salvation?

Songs of Salvation?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who sing glad songs of salvation. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Sing of redemption and deliverance. God can do amazing things.

The word “valiantly” in the following verses has many synonyms including bravely, courageously, fearlessly, and nobly.

Psalm 118:14-16 (ESV) is about song, salvation, and the right hand of the Lord.

“The Lord is my strength and my song;
he has become my salvation.
Glad songs of salvation
are in the tents of the righteous:
‘The right hand of the Lord does valiantly,
the right hand of the Lord exalts,
the right hand of the Lord does valiantly!’”

When a crisis comes, it may be time to pull out a hymnal and start to sing. Or rely on your musical memory. So praise and sing glad songs.

Where Did Your Dreams Come From?

Where Did Your Dreams Come From?

My dream of being able to visit places around the world started when I was a boy.

When I was growing up, my parents managed an apartment complex. I remember the owner, Ed Beaumont. He was a nice man who would come by to collect the tenant’s rents.

Ed and his wife were world travelers. Whenever they would go somewhere, they would make sure to send us a postcard. I was fascinated by the pictures. When I would see Mr. Beaumont, I asked questions about his trips and loved hearing about his adventures.

Once when Mr. Beaumont was going away for two weeks, he asked my mother and me to take care of his talking, double yellow-headed Amazon parrot. By the second week, his bird had learned to mimic the sound of our laughter. When he came to pick up his bird, he shared about his trip.

Across the alley from where we lived was a woman who also traveled internationally. One time, she invited my parents and me to come over to her home to see the slides her most recent trip. When the lights were turned low, I watched the screen come to life with pictures of historic places including the Holy Land. She told about her trip including the history of the places she visited. For me, it was like I was there. A few years ago, my wife and I fulfilled my dream when we visited Israel.

My dream of becoming a world traveler became a reality. How about you? Where did your dreams come from?

Never stop dreaming.

What Can Man Do To Me?

What Can Man Do To Me?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who say, “I will not fear. What can man do to me?” In Jesus’ name, amen.

Fear can paralyze a person to inaction. Fear can also keep a person awake at night. Anyone can go through a season of panic and anxiety.

The cure for these things is God’s word where it says, “The Lord is on my side.”

Psalm 118:5-9 (ESV) explains that God can answer us personally and set us free.

“Out of my distress I called on the Lord;
the Lord answered me and set me free.
The Lord is on my side; I will not fear.
What can man do to me?
The Lord is on my side as my helper;
I shall look in triumph on those who hate me.

It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in man.
It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in princes.”

Where is it you go when you need to take refuge from panic and anxiety? Where it you run when afraid? The answer to both is these questions is to trust in the Lord and realize he is on your side.
