None Who Does Good?

None Who Does Good?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who acknowledge their sinfulness and rejoice they have a savior. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Men cannot change the reality of their inherent sinful nature. They can, however, seek and find Jesus, the savior of the world. Romans 3:23 (ESV) says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Psalm 53:2-3 (ESV) addresses this issue of sin:

“The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, doing abominable iniquity;
there is none who does good.

God looks down from heaven
on the children of man
to see if there are any who understand,
who seek after God.

They have all fallen away;
together they have become corrupt;
there is none who does good,
not even one.”

In desperate need of a savior? If you have been seeking answers to life’s most pressing questions, maybe it is time to open and read the Bible. Don’t wait to search scripture for answers to life’s most pressing questions.

Steadfast Love Endures?

Steadfast Love Endures?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know the steadfast love of God endures, especially in the face of evil. In Jesus’ name amen.

David, the psalmist, describes those with evil intent. He refers to them as boastful and liars.

Psalm 52:1-5 (ESV) lets the reader know however boastful or filled with deceit an evil person might be, God will still prevail.

“Why do you boast of evil, O mighty man?
The steadfast love of God endures all the day.
Your tongue plots destruction,
like a sharp razor, you worker of deceit.
You love evil more than good,
and lying more than speaking what is right. Selah
You love all words that devour,
O deceitful tongue.

But God will break you down forever;
he will snatch and tear you from your tent;
he will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah

Evil ones end in destruction. Fortunately, God’s steadfast love endures. When overwhelmed by the evil of the world, remember God is standing in the gap. His love endures all the day.

Bloodguiltiness?

Bloodguiltiness?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who ask God to take away their guilt. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Some people have guilt feelings about their past. David had committed adultery, murder, and cover-up. It was not until Nathan confronted David that David became guilt ridden.

Psalm 51:14-15 (ESV) is evidence of his confidence that God would deliver him.

“Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God,
O God of my salvation,
and my tongue will sing aloud of your righteousness.
O Lord, open my lips,
and my mouth will declare your praise.”

God will be faithful to forgive sin when it is confessed.

God can remove the guilt associated with sin.

The forgiveness in David’s life led to praise. If it is appropriate, allow the freedom from guilt to give opportunity to praise.

Create a Clean Heart?

Create a Clean Heart?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who ask God to create in them a clean heart. In Jesus’ name, amen.

David had an affair with Bathsheba, ordered the murder of her husband, Uriah the Hittite, and found himself confronted by Nathan the prophet.

David cries out to God, and in Psalm 51:10-13 (ESV) David first asks for his heart and spirit to be made right before God. He goes on to share he will teach others (i.e. transgressors) God’s ways.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and uphold me with a willing spirit.

Then I will teach transgressors your ways,
and sinners will return to you.”

This passage is a lesson in confession and hope. Dave turns his egregious sin into an opportunity to testify to God’s willingness to forgive.

Abundant Mercy?

Abundant Mercy?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who need abundant mercy. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Psalm 51 was written by David after he had an affair with Bathsheba, ordered her husband, Uriah the Hittite, murdered, and was confronted by Nathan the prophet. David was convicted by his sin.

Psalm 51:1-3 (ESV) gives us a glimpse into the mind of a man pleading for mercy from Holy God;

“Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your steadfast love;
according to your abundant mercy
blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
and cleanse me from my sin!

For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is ever before me.”
