Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who work the land and have plenty of bread. In Jesus’ name, amen.
There is a big distinction between those who work, and those who follow worthless pursuits. During the 1930’s when the United States experienced The Great Depression, my family members were hardworking farmers.
Proverbs 12:11 (ESV) says,
“Whoever works his land will have plenty of bread,
but he who follows worthless pursuits lacks sense.”
The farmers during the depression had food to eat even though it was during hard times.
The second part of the verse characterizes those who follow worthless pursuits. Consider those who waste away hours playing video games.
Others spend endless hours on social media. There are a thousand other pursuits that distract a person from working. If my farmer relatives did not sow, they would not have been able to reap.
Be on guard. Be productive. Work. Put bread on the table.
If you have been struggling to find appropriate employment, keep trying. The next contact could open the doors to success. Make sure to eliminate worthless pursuits. Don’t become one of those who is said to lack sense.
