The Sum of Your Word Is Truth?

The Sum of Your Word Is Truth?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know the sum of your word is the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Imagine you are a witness in a trial. Bibles are still used in courtrooms for swearing in witnesses. Will you take your oath seriously?

The psalmist is confident in God’s word. “Your righteous rules endures forever.”

Psalm 119:153-160 (ESV)

“Look on my affliction and deliver me,
for I do not forget your law.
Plead my cause and redeem me;
give me life according to your promise!
Salvation is far from the wicked,
for they do not seek your statutes.
Great is your mercy, O Lord;
give me life according to your rules.
Many are my persecutors and my adversaries,
but I do not swerve from your testimonies.
I look at the faithless with disgust,
because they do not keep your commands.
Consider how I love your precepts!
Give me life according to your steadfast love.
The sum of your word is truth,
and every one of your righteous rules endures forever.”

Where do you stand with regard to the Bible? Do you believe it is true, or is it just a book of stories? Will you tell the truth if you swear on a Bible? God’s word is truth. Trust it. Read it. Live by it.

Your Words Give Light?

Your Words Give Light?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who agree “the unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.” In Jesus’ name, amen.

The Bible is God’s word.

According to 2 Timothy 3:16 (ESV)
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.”

Psalm 119:129-136 (ESV) says that God’s words give light.

“Your testimonies are wonderful;
therefore my soul keeps them.
The unfolding of your words gives light;
it imparts understanding to the simple.
I open my mouth and pant,
because I long for your commandments.
Turn to me and be gracious to me,
as is your way with those who love your name.
Keep steady my steps according to your promise,
and let no iniquity get dominion over me.
Redeem me from man’s oppression,
that I may keep your precepts.
Make your face shine upon your servant,
and teach me your statutes.
My eyes shed streams of tears,
because people do not keep your law.”

Trust what God says in Scripture. Take time to pray. Ask God to show you his truth as you read.

A Lamp Unto My Feet?

A Lamp Unto My Feet?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who declare your word is a lamp unto their feet. In Jesus’ name, amen.

“Thy Word” by Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith is based on Psalm 119:105. The song begins,

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path

When I feel afraid
Think I’ve lost my way
Still you’re there right beside me
And nothing will I fear
As long as you are near
Please be near me to the end.

Psalm 119:105-106 (ESV) is a reminder to hold steadfast to God’s word, for in Scripture he shows us the way.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet
and a light to my path.
I have sworn an oath and confirmed it,
to keep your righteous rules.”

Do you ever feel like you need guidance? Are you in the throes of making a big decision? Don’t underestimate the power of God’s word to light the way. Ask God to direct you and light your path.

Thousands of Gold and Silver Pieces?

Thousands of Gold and Silver Pieces?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know the law of your mouth is better than thousands of gold and silver pieces. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Many have gone astray and been far from God. Now, some of those worst offenders keep God’s commandments. How can it be that God would be so gracious as to accept someone back into the fold who has been unfaithful? God forgives mistakes for those who are truly sorry for their transgressions.

Psalm 119:65-72 (ESV).

“You have dealt well with your servant,
O Lord, according to your word.
Teach me good judgment and knowledge,
for I believe in your commandments.
Before I was afflicted I went astray,
but now I keep your word.
You are good and do good;
teach me your statutes.
The insolent smear me with lies,
but with my whole heart I keep your precepts;
their heart is unfeeling like fat,
but I delight in your law.
It is good for me that I was afflicted,
that I might learn your statutes.
The law of your mouth is better to me
than thousands of gold and silver pieces.”

What is the value of God to you? Could that value be measured financially? Would you exchange your love of God for a bribe? A large bribe? The psalmist cannot be bought.

Soul Melts Away in Sorrow?

Soul Melts Away in Sorrow?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those whose soul melts away in sorrow. Strengthen them according to your word. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Luke 16:17 (ESV) says, “But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one dot of the Law to become void.”

God’s word is everlasting.

Psalm 119:28-32 (ESV) is about clinging to God’s laws. In sorrow, the psalmist turns to God’s word.

“My soul melts away for sorrow;
strengthen me according to your word!
Put false ways far from me
and graciously teach me your law!
I have chosen the way of faithfulness;
I set your rules before me.
I cling to your testimonies, O Lord;
let me not be put to shame!
I will run in the way of your commandments
when you enlarge my heart!”

Whatever the circumstance, God offers the opportunity to faithfully follow him. Seek God’s wisdom. Follow his instruction.

The Way of Your Precepts?

The Way of Your Precepts?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who ask you to help them understand the way of your precepts. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Isaiah 55:8 (ESV) says the following:

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.”

Psalm 119:25-27 (ESV) is an appeal to God by the psalmist wanting to understand God’s ways.

“My soul clings to the dust;
give me life according to your word!
When I told of my ways, you answered me;
teach me your statutes!
Make me understand the way of your precepts,
and I will meditate on your wondrous works.”

Are you willing to ask to understand the way of God’s precepts? Will you meditate on God’s wondrous works?

Take time throughout your day to seek understanding. Mediate.
