Do You Know People Who Wise In Their Own Eyes!

Do You Know People Who Wise In Their Own Eyes!

Dear Lord, I pray for those who are not wise in their own eyes. In Jesus’s name, amen.

Ever been around a know it all?

This type of person claims to have all the right answers. Although this is not necessarily the case, such a person thinks they have the wisdom to make decisions and tell others what to do.

Proverbs 26:12 (ESV) is about those who think they are wise when their actions prove otherwise.

“Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes?
There is more hope for a fool than for him.”

Have tendencies toward being a know it all?

Stop. Stop being a fool.

Realize there is wisdom in God’s holy and inspired word. Trust the Lord.

Do not be a person who claims to be wise. Instead, be humble in the face of the Lord.

Do You Acquire and Seek Knowledge?

Do You Acquire and Seek Knowledge?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who acquire and seek knowledge. In Jesus’s name, amen.

How do you make decisions?

Before making a decision, consider what Scripture says in Proverbs 18:15 (ESV).

“An intelligent heart acquires knowledge,
and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.”

Consider what the notes for verses 18:15-19 say in the English Standard Version, published by Crossway.

“These proverbs could be applied to many settings in life, though here they seem to be particularly focused on a courtroom setting. In hearing a case, one should see with one’s heart (Hb. leb, “reason, emotions, and will) to acquire knowledge, and likewise with one’s ear to listen carefully to what is being said, for that is the way that the wise (person) seeks knowledge.”

In both cases, the aim is knowledge. Trust God to provide the knowledge you need.

The next time you make a decision won’t you listen with your heart and ears?

Walk with the Wise!

Walk with the Wise!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who walk with the wise. In Jesus’s name, amen.

Proverbs 11:14 (ESV) says,

“Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.”

Proverbs 13:20 (ESV) is related to the above proverb.

“Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise,
but the companion of fools will suffer harm.”

Parents are often concerned about their children’s friends. With a good peer group, a young person can thrive. In contrast, if a young person starts to associate with the wrong crowd, there is greater potential for one or more problems.

Do not spend time with fools. The consequences can be catastrophic.

Wouldn’t you rather spend time with those who are wise? Say, “Yes.”

Trust, Incline, Hear, and Apply!

Trust, Incline, Hear, and Apply!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who put their trust in you. In Jesus’ amen.

King Solomon reiterates a person should put their trust in the Lord.

Proverbs 22:17-19 (ESV) uses vivid language when telling readers what to do. “Incline.” “Hear.” and “Apply.” He also uses the words, “keep,” and “ready.”

“Incline your ear, and hear the words of the wise,
and apply your heart to my knowledge,
for it will be pleasant if you keep them within you,
if all of them are ready on your lips.
That your trust may be in the Lord,
I have made them known to you today, even to you.”

Decide to trust in the Lord. From now on, follow his ways as described in this section of Scripture.

Acquire and Seek Knowledge!

Acquire and Seek Knowledge!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those with an intelligent heart who acquire knowledge. In Jesus’ name, amen.

There are some people who think only of logic, and focus on so-called head knowledge. Then, there are others who consider situations move from their heart. Which are you?

Do you tend to jump to conclusions, or do you listen to all sides before making a decision?

Proverbs 18:15 (ESV) is about an intelligent heart and the ear of the wise.

“An intelligent heart acquires knowledge,
and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.”

In both cases, the aim is the acquisition of knowledge. Knowledge, not as the world gives, but as God gives.
