Are You Shining?

Are You Shining?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for anyone who wants to avoid grumbling and disputing, and, by doing so, wants to shine as a light in the world. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Whatever the origin of your complaint or dispute, God knows all about it. Scripture tells us to avoid some things to allow other things to happen. Such is the case with grumbling and disputing. For when these are avoided, God will open an opportunity for something far greater. Through you, God may illuminate the way for others.

Philippians 2:14-15 (ESV) says,
“Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world.”

Take action to stop complaining and quarreling. Be without blemish. Shine forth and be a beacon for the crooked and twisted.

Looking Over Your Shoulder?

Looking Over Your Shoulder?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who want to forget what lies behind and push toward what lies ahead. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Ever been plagued by something that happened long ago? Don’t get bogged down by dwelling on the past. Run the race of life with concentrated focus. Race to the finish line.

Philippians 3:13-14 (NIV) tells us about this race.

“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Stop pondering the past. Think about a glorious future. What happens when believers reach life’s finish line? The prize of life everlasting with Jesus awaits!

Me? Rejoice? It is Thanksgiving Day!

Me? Rejoice? It is Thanksgiving Day!

Dear Lord, I pray you give wisdom to those who need to be reminded to be thankful and to rejoice in the Lord always. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Today is a day to be thankful to the Lord for all he has done. And, thus, it is time to rejoice.

Some believers get distracted and become preoccupied with self. Instead of that type of distraction, take an inventory of what is important.

Scripture sometimes makes a point by reiterating the same word twice in the same verse. Take notice. Paul, in Philippians 4:4 (ESV), gives us clear direction.

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.”

What does it mean to rejoice? Celebrate. Be glad. Exult. Express joy.

Take action now. Be Thankful and rejoice in the Lord!

Do it again!

Are You a Citizen?

Are You a Citizen?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know their citizenship is in heaven. In Jesus’ name, amen.

At the time of Christ, Roman citizenship was highly prized. But what does citizenship in heaven mean for believers?

The rights and privileges are amazing. Philippians 3:20-21 (ESV) outlines why citizens of heaven can be confident.

“But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.”

Live courageously, Citizen of Heaven!

Rights and privileges you currently have are yours for eternity.

Stand Firm!

Stand Firm!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who want to stand firm. In Jesus’ name, amen.

How can anyone live a life worthy of the Gospel of Christ?

By standing firm!

The Apostle Paul gives marching orders when he says in Philippians 1:27-28 (ESV),
“Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel, and not frightened in anything by your opponents. This is a clear sign to them of their destruction, but of your salvation, and that from God.”

Do not cower in the face of opposition.

Stand. Firm. In one spirit. Not frightened!

A Work in Progress!

A Work in Progress!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for everyone to know that he who began a good work will be faithful to complete it. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Ever heard someone say, “Give it time?”

Impatient people can be found everywhere. Our instant gratification culture can be seen in everything from on-demand movies to fast food.

In God’s economy, things take time.

Apostle Paul says in Philippians 1:6 (ESV),
“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”

It may be very hard, but accept God’s timing. We can live by the promise: God will “bring it to completion” even if it takes longer than we expect.

Be patient. Let God.
