Do You Have Many Advisers!

Do You Have Many Advisers!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who seek counsel from many advisers. In Jesus’s name, amen.

Some individuals believe they have all the answers. When it comes to making wise decisions, these people would never think to ask God. Rather they rely on their own understanding.

This is the opposite of what it says in Proverb 3:5-6 (ESV).

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.”

Proverbs 15:22 (ESV) is about what happens with and without counselors and advisers.

“Without counsel plans fail,
but with many advisers they succeed.”

Be wise. Acknowledge God. Have many advisers.

Are You Slow To Anger?

Are You Slow To Anger?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who are slow to anger. In Jesus’s name, amen.

Ever been around someone who has angry outbursts? It can be more than intimidating.

Abusive relationships often involve hot-tempered individuals.

Proverbs 15:18 (ESV) contrasts the hot-tempered person with one who is slow to anger.

“A hot-tempered man stirs up strife,
but he who is slow to anger quiets contention.”

The old adage say, “If you are angry, count to ten before taking any action.”

If you have been hot-tempered, realize the advantages to being slow to anger.

Pray and ask God to bring about a change in your life with regard to your anger issues.

Prayer changes things.

Are You Humble?

Are You Humble?

Dear Lord, I pray for those who are humble. In Jesus’ name, amen.

A person with humility can be said to have an unassuming nature.

The relationship between God and mankind is a topic worthy of endless discussion. Once people understand how almighty and powerful God is, and how limited we men and women are, then it becomes possible to realize God is God.

We need to be humble in his presence.

Proverbs 15:33 (ESV) is about instruction in wisdom and how humility relates.

“The fear of the Lord is instruction in wisdom,
and humility comes before honor.”

Put God’s power into perspective.

Humbly come before him with praise and adoration.

A Soft Word Turns Away Wrath!

A Soft Word Turns Away Wrath!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those whose soft words turn away wrath. In Jesus’s name, amen.

Mike Rowe and Matt Crouch are on Trinity Broadcasting Network on Sunday nights with a program titled The Story Behind the Story. As the story is told by Mike, it is brought to life for viewers to see.

Few people know that Bob Ross was a drill sergeant before he became famous for teaching painting on PBS. After years of yelling at troops, he became well-known for his soft-spoken manner.

Proverbs 15:1 was quoted during the broadcast.

“A soft answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

What is your preference?

A soft answer? Harsh words? Choose wisely.

If you have been known for harsh words, change and become known for your soft answers.

Mere Talk Tends Only to Poverty!

Mere Talk Tends Only to Poverty!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who toil. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Have you ever heard the phrase, “Talk is cheap?”

One friend put it this way, “Big hat. No cattle.”

There are those who are all talk, but they do not take action.

Proverbs 14:23 (ESV) is about those who do the work, and those who are all talk.

“In all toil there is profit,
but mere talk tends only to poverty.”

Don’t look back on life and realize you missed opportunities to work hard and reap the benefits.

Make sure to take action. Do the work.

Avoid Backsliding!

Avoid Backsliding!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who do not want to backslide. In Jesus’s name, amen.

Those who backslide, revert to sin.

In an article on Crosswalk.com, “What it Means to Backslide and How to Recover,” Dr. Roger Barrier defines “‘backsliding’ as an interruption or step backward in our spiritual growth.”

Solomon, in Proverbs 14:14 (ESV), describes both the backslider and a good man.

“The backslider in heart will be filled with the fruit of his ways,
and a good man will be filled with the fruit of his ways.”

What kind of fruit do you produce?

Avoid temptation. If you have backslidden, repent.

James 4:8 (ESV) says,

“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”

If you are a believer, draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.
