Work the Land!

Work the Land!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who work the land and have plenty of bread. In Jesus’ name, amen.

There is a big distinction between those who work, and those who follow worthless pursuits. During the 1930’s when the United States experienced The Great Depression, my family members were hardworking farmers.

Proverbs 12:11 (ESV) says,
“Whoever works his land will have plenty of bread,
but he who follows worthless pursuits lacks sense.”

The farmers during the depression had food to eat even though it was during hard times.

The second part of the verse characterizes those who follow worthless pursuits. Consider those who waste away hours playing video games.

Others spend endless hours on social media. There are a thousand other pursuits that distract a person from working. If my farmer relatives did not sow, they would not have been able to reap.

Be on guard. Be productive. Work. Put bread on the table.

If you have been struggling to find appropriate employment, keep trying. The next contact could open the doors to success. Make sure to eliminate worthless pursuits. Don’t become one of those who is said to lack sense.

Do Not Cause Trouble in Your Own Household!

Do Not Cause Trouble in Your Own Household!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who do not cause trouble in their own household. In Jesus’ name, amen.

There are plenty of ways to bring trouble on your own household. There are extreme cases like adultery. Others include financial infidelity where one spouse lies to the other about their spending habits. Anger can shake the core of any household.

Proverbs 11:29 (ESV) is about what happens to those who trouble their own household.

“Whoever troubles his own household will inherit the wind,
and the fool will be servant to the wise of heart.”

Are you at risk of inheriting the wind? If you are the cause of trouble in your household, find a way to reconcile. Allow God to change your heart, so you can preserve your family.

An Excellent Wife is the Crown of Her Husband!

An Excellent Wife is the Crown of Her Husband!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know an excellent wife is the crown of her husband. In Jesus’ name, amen.

My wife and I recently celebrated our thirty-second wedding anniversary. It is hard to believe that so much time has passed. When we were out to dinner on our special date night, we made a list of some the highlights we experienced during our years of marriage.

Like Proverbs 12:4 (ESV) says,

“An excellent wife is the crown of her husband,
but she who brings shame is like rottenness in his bones.”

We had a long list of things to be thankful for. My wife has been and remains an excellent wife. I have been truly blessed by our relationship/ She is my crown.

Are you equally blessed? Celebrate your relationship, and make the precious moments count.

Whoever Brings Blessing Will Be Enriched!

Whoever Brings Blessing Will Be Enriched!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who bring blessing. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Proverbs 11:25 (ESV) is about how God takes care of his own.

”Whoever brings blessing will be enriched,
and one who waters will himself be watered.”

It is time to take a fresh look at God’s message in Proverbs. It seems God will take care of those who bring blessing. He will also refresh those who refresh others. Bring blessing and be one who offers water to those who are thirsty. Look for opportunity to bless others and take care of their needs.

Give Freely!

Give Freely!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who give freely. In Jesus’ name, amen.

2 Corinthians 9:7 (ESV) says, “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

Proverbs 11:24 (ESV) is also about giving.

“One gives freely, yet grows all the richer;
another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.”

Do you give generously? Are you stingy? God’s word defines the person who gives and the one who withholds. Be open to giving above and beyond what you are used to. Make sure to do so without reservation. God will know your heart.

When Pride Comes, then Comes Disgrace!

When Pride Comes, then Comes Disgrace!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know when pride comes, then comes disgrace. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Pride can be person’s downfall. How serious is it? Mark 7:20-23 (ESV) is quoting Jesus.

“And he said, “’What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.’”

Proverbs 11:2 (ESV) contrasts pride with humility.

“When pride comes, then comes disgrace,
but with the humble is wisdom.”

If you have a problem with pride, it is time to change. Reject prideful thoughts, and humble yourself in the face of the Lord.
