Does the Lord Establish Your Steps?

Does the Lord Establish Your Steps?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know the heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. In Jesus’s name, amen.

Perhaps you have a seen a child demanding to have their own way, and throwing a tantrum. Some adults are no different. When things don’t turn out the way they want, adult men or women can react with their own tantrums. Sometimes the manifest as angry outbursts.

Proverbs 16:9 (ESV) is about a man’s plans and how the Lord is involved.

“The heart of man plans his way,
but the Lord establishes his steps.”

Don’t take steps expecting to always get your way.

Avoid the tantrums and outbursts. Rather remember Proverb 16:9, and accept that you can have the plans, but the Lord is in control of how things unfold.

That I Might Not Sin Against You!

That I Might Not Sin Against You!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who say, “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” In Jesus’ name, amen.

Psalm 119 is divided into sections. It is an acrostic psalm based on the Hebrew alphabet.

Each letter is given a section. Beginning with a question, Psalm 119:9-16 (ESV) is identified by the Hebrew letter “Beth.” It is the second section.

“How can a young man keep his way pure?
By guarding it according to your word.
With my whole heart I seek you;
let me not wander from your commandments!
I have stored up your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.
Blessed are you, O Lord;
teach me your statutes!
With my lips I declare
all the rules of your mouth.
In the way of your testimonies I delight
as much as in all riches.
I will meditate on your precepts
and fix my eyes on your ways.
I will delight in your statutes;
I will not forget your word.”

This second section of the psalm seems to answer the question about how a young man can keep his way pure. Young or old, a person can benefit from meditating and fixing their eyes upon God’s word and his precepts.

Inspect Thoughts?

Inspect Thoughts?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who ask you to search them, and know their hearts. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Are you willing to bear your soul to the Lord? Will you tell him how you really feel?

Psalm 139:17-24 (ESV) gives a glimpse into one who hates those who stand in opposition to God. Then the psalmist invites God to inspect his thoughts and his ways.

“How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!
If I would count them, they are more than the sand.
I awake, and I am still with you.

Oh that you would slay the wicked, O God!
O men of blood, depart from me!
They speak against you with malicious intent;
your enemies take your name in vain.
Do I not hate those who hate you, O Lord?
And do I not loathe those who rise up against you?
I hate them with complete hatred;
I count them my enemies.

Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!”

Is it time to ask God to search you and know your heart? Inviting his kind of scrutiny can result in either openness before God or a fear of being discovered. Which is it for you? Are you willing to open yourself to a complete and thorough examination?

Cry Out for God?

Cry Out for God?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who cry out to you for help. In Jesus’ name, amen.

People can cry out the God for a million different reasons. It can be in desperation, in defeat, at a moment of loss, or in a crisis. Whatever the circumstances, God is aware.

Psalm 119:145-152 (ESV) begins with a whole hearted cry to the Lord.

“With my whole heart I cry; answer me, O Lord!
I will keep your statutes.
I call to you; save me,
that I may observe your testimonies.
I rise before dawn and cry for help;
I hope in your words.
My eyes are awake before the watches of the night,
that I may meditate on your promise.
Hear my voice according to your steadfast love;
O Lord, according to your justice give me life.
They draw near who persecute me with evil purpose;
they are far from your law.
But you are near, O Lord,
and all your commandments are true.
Long have I known from your testimonies
that you have founded them forever.”

Are you at a point where you are crying out to God? If not, consider approaching holy God with reverence and honor. If yes, you are crying out, I believe God led you to read this post. Jesus Christ said in John 14:6 (ESV), “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Will you trust his holy and inspired word? It is okay to cry out like the psalmist. Live expecting God to intervene in yours and other’s lives.
