Heals the Brokenhearted?

Heals the Brokenhearted?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know God heals the heartbroken and binds up their wounds. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For all the despairing and despondent people who feel crushed by life’s circumstances, God is able to provide healing.

Psalm 147:1-6 (ESV) praises God and gives reasons he is praiseworthy including his healing power.

“Praise the Lord!
For it is good to sing praises to our God;
for it is pleasant, and a song of praise is fitting.
The Lord builds up Jerusalem;
he gathers the outcasts of Israel.
He heals the brokenhearted
and binds up their wounds.
He determines the number of the stars;
he gives to all of them their names.
Great is our Lord, and abundant in power;
his understanding is beyond measure.
The Lord lifts up the humble;
he casts the wicked to the ground.”

The God who determines the number of the stars is able to heal the brokenhearted. Remain humble. Praise God. Trust him if you are hurting. Ask him to bind up your wounds.

Understanding That I May Live?

Understanding That I May Live?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know you give understanding, so your followers may live. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Students study hard to do well in their classes. They strive to understand what is being taught. A great deal of time is devoted to mastering subjects. How is it that one can understand Scripture, so it leads to life?

Psalm 119:137-144 (ESV) concludes with a plea for this kind of understanding.

“Righteous are you, O Lord,
and right are your rules.
You have appointed your testimonies in righteousness
and in all faithfulness.
My zeal consumes me,
because my foes forget your words.
Your promise is well tried,
and your servant loves it.
I am small and despised,
yet I do not forget your precepts.
Your righteousness is righteous forever,
and your law is true.
Trouble and anguish have found me out,
but your commandments are my delight.
Your testimonies are righteous forever;
give me understanding that I may live.”

Scripture has a life-giving message. The psalmist confirms there is a link between understanding and life. Do you acknowledge Scripture as being the truth? Do you trust God to provide life? Seek him. Praise him. Rejoice. Ask for understanding that you may live.

More Understanding Than All My Teachers?

More Understanding Than All My Teachers?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who love your law and meditate on it all day. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Who was your best teacher? Most people can think of at least one teacher who influenced them greatly. Imagine reaching a point where you have greater understanding than your teachers. Although it might seem impossible, the psalmist in Psalm 119: 97-100 (ESV) declares it to be true.

“Oh how I love your law!
It is my meditation all the day.
Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies,
for it is ever with me.
I have more understanding than all my teachers,
for your testimonies are my meditation.
I understand more than the aged,
for I keep your precepts.”

Imagine meditating on Scripture all day, every day. The Bible says, you will be wiser than your enemies, more understanding then all your teachers, and understand more than those who are aged. Reading scripture and obeying God are worthy endeavors. Start. Continue. Praise God.

Fear of the Lord?

Fear of the Lord?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.”

The website biblestudytools.com explains that the word “fear,” in this context, implies respect. Believers respect God so much they will do what they can to avoid sin, humbly worship, and approach God with awe and reverence.

Psalm 111:10 (ESV) tells us the practice of wisdom will lead to good understanding.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
all those who practice it have a good understanding.
His praise endures forever!”

A note in the English Standard Version of the Bible explains the word “understanding” means, “Sound insight into God’s moral order for the world.”

God is not some impersonal God who wants us to cower in his presence. Rather, he is worthy of praise. Learn more about what it means to have a personal relationship with God by reading the Four Spiritual Laws:
