Avoid Adultery!

Avoid Adultery!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who refuse to be tempted by the lips of the forbidden. In Jesus’s name, amen.

King Solomon gave advice to men tempted to commit adultery. His dire warning says of the woman providing the temptation, “Her feet go down to death; her steps follow the path to Sheol.”

Proverbs 5:1-6 (ESV) describes what happens if a person is seduced by the temptress.

“My son, be attentive to my wisdom;
incline your ear to my understanding,
that you may keep discretion,
and your lips may guard knowledge.
For the lips of a forbidden woman drip honey,
and her speech is smoother than oil,
but in the end she is bitter as wormwood,
sharp as a two-edged sword.
Her feet go down to death;
her steps follow the path to Sheol;
she does not ponder the path of life;
her ways wander, and she does not know it.”

Beware the temptress. If you have already succumbed to adulterous behavior, stop now. Repent and ask God’s forgiveness. Go, and sin no more.

Turn Away From Evil!

Turn Away From Evil!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. In Jesus’s name, amen.

Temptations are everywhere.

1 Corinthians 10:13 (ESV) says,

“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”

Proverbs 3:7-8 (ESV) is, in part, about turning away from evil.

“Be not wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
It will be healing to your flesh
and refreshment to your bones.”

Those who turn away are told there will be “healing to your flesh” and “refreshment to your bones.”

Examine your heart, and ask if there is something that needs to change. Repent. Do it now.

Do Not Yield to Temptation!

Do Not Yield to Temptation!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for others to be able to choose between a path that leads to destruction and the paths of the righteous. In Jesus’s name, amen.

There is a great contrast between a person tempted by a forbidden woman, and a person who does yield to temptation.

Proverbs 2:16-22 (ESV) clarifies the distinction between the two.

“So you will be delivered from the forbidden woman,
from the adulteress with her smooth words,
who forsakes the companion of her youth
and forgets the covenant of her God;
for her house sinks down to death,
and her paths to the departed;
none who go to her come back,
nor do they regain the paths of life.

So you will walk in the way of the good
and keep to the paths of the righteous.
For the upright will inhabit the land,
and those with integrity will remain in it,
but the wicked will be cut off from the land,
and the treacherous will be rooted out of it.”

Don’t get confused. There is no gray area. If a person yields to temptation, they are in trouble.

Keep to the paths of the righteous and thrive.
