Do Not Despise the Lord’s Discipline!

Do Not Despise the Lord’s Discipline!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who accept the Lord’s discipline. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The word “reproof” has several synonyms including scolding and reprimand.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (ESV) tells us,

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”

Proverbs 3:11-12 (ESV) is about having a proper attitude about the Lord’s discipline.

“My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline
or be weary of his reproof,
for the Lord reproves him whom he loves,
as a father the son in whom he delights.”

How will you react when you are reprimanded by the Lord? Rather than be upset, realize God’s love for you. God is equipping you for every good work. Be thankful.

Life-giving Reproof!

Life-giving Reproof!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who listen to life-giving reproof. In Jesus’ name, amen.

According to dictionary.com, reproof means “the act of reproving, censuring or rebuking.”

Ever been told you should not be doing something? As adults, this can lead to more than just hard feelings. Not everyone is so inclined to change behavior after being rebuked.

Proverbs 15:31-32 (ESV) addresses is those who are willing to change after God’s reproof.

”The ear that listens to life-giving reproof
will dwell among the wise.
Whoever ignores instruction despises himself,
but he who listens to reproof gains intelligence.”

Notice the impact of listening to and changing behavior in response to the reproof: dwelling among the wise and gaining intelligence.
