Cares of the Heart?

Cares of the Heart?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom those whose cares of the heart are many, but your consolations cheer the soul. In Jesus’ name, amen.

In many of the psalms, the wicked and evildoers seem to be close to victory.

Yet, in Psalm 94:16-19 (ESV), God rescues his own.

“Who rises up for me against the wicked?
Who stands up for me against evildoers?
If the Lord had not been my help,
my soul would soon have lived in the land of silence.
When I thought, “My foot slips,”
your steadfast love, O Lord, held me up.
When the cares of my heart are many,
your consolations cheer my soul.”

How does it feel to have Almighty God help when a foot slips or the cares mount up? Rejoice and worship God for all he has done and continues to do.

Does the Lord Reign?

Does the Lord Reign?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know the Lord reigns. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Not everyone has experienced a flood, yet many can relate to being near a seashore and listening to the roar. When the rushing water of a fast-moving river crashes into rocks, it has a roar of its own. Psalm 93: 1-5 (ESV) affirms the Lord reigns and the floods lift up their voice.

“The Lord reigns; he is robed in majesty;
the Lord is robed; he has put on strength as his belt.
Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved.
Your throne is established from of old;
you are from everlasting.

The floods have lifted up, O Lord,
the floods have lifted up their voice;
the floods lift up their roaring.
Mightier than the thunders of many waters,
mightier than the waves of the sea,
the Lord on high is mighty!

Your decrees are very trustworthy;
holiness befits your house,
O Lord, forevermore.”

The Lord is mightier than the thunders of many waters. Ponder the wonders of creation. God reigns over it all. Does the Lord reign in your life? Do you count his decrees very trustworthy? Ask him to reveal himself. If you know he reigns, praise him.

I Sing for Joy?

I Sing for Joy?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who sing praise to your name, O Most High. In Jesus’ name, amen.

I know people who sing in the choir. I also know those who prefer singing along with the choir while standing or seated with the rest of the congregation. Whether a song leader, or one who is tone deaf, God hears all of our voices.

Psalm 92:1-5 (ESV) is about singing praises. Musical instruments accompany the voices.

“It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to sing praises to your name, O Most High;
to declare your steadfast love in the morning,
and your faithfulness by night,
to the music of the lute and the harp,
to the melody of the lyre.
For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your work;
at the works of your hands I sing for joy.

How great are your works, O Lord!
Your thoughts are very deep!”

Is your heart filled with praise? Stop and think of a favorite God-honoring song. Now. Hum or sing the song to the Lord. Give thanks.

I’ll Fly Away?

I’ll Fly Away?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom, for one day I will fly away. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Today the average life expectancy is between seventy-eight and seventy-nine years.

The famous song by Alan Jackson, “I’ll Fly Away,” has a powerful message throughout , especially in the first verse and the refrain.

Some glad morning when this life is over
“I’ll fly away
To a home on God’s celestial shore
I’ll fly away

I’ll fly away, oh, Glory
I’ll fly away
When I die, Hallelujah, by and by
I’ll fly away”

Psalm 90:9-10 makes note of the years of our lives and flying away.

“For all our days pass away under your wrath;
we bring our years to an end like a sigh.
The years of our life are seventy,
or even by reason of strength eighty;
yet their span is but toil and trouble;
they are soon gone, and we fly away.”

Toil and trouble are different for each person. Are you prepared for what happens with age? Be aware that God will walk with you to the end. Live life for God whatever your age.

Our Dwelling Place?

Our Dwelling Place?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know you have been the dwelling place of believers for all generations. In Jesus’ name, amen.

According to Psalm 90 (ESV) on BibleGateway.com, instead of dwelling place, the words our refuge appear in some manuscripts.

The familiar words of Genesis 1:1 (ESV), “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth,” remind us of what Moses says in Psalm 90:1-2 (ESV).

“Lord, you have been our dwelling place
in all generations.
Before the mountains were brought forth,
or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
from everlasting to everlasting you are God.”

Dwelling place or our refuge, the personal relationship Moses’ had with God is undeniable. Do you have a relationship with God? If so, pray. If not, pray. Ask him to come into your life.

Teach Me Your Way, O Lord?

Teach Me Your Way, O Lord?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those open to be taught your way and to walk in the truth. In Jesus’ name, amen.

In the first of the Ten Commandments, Exodus 20:3 (ESV), God says, “’You shall have no other Gods before me.’”

We read in Psalm 86:10-13 (ESV), the phrase, “You alone are God.” This acknowledges God’s supremacy.

“For you are great and do wondrous things;
you alone are God.
Teach me your way, O Lord,
that I may walk in your truth;
unite my heart to fear your name.
I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart,
and I will glorify your name forever.
For great is your steadfast love toward me;
you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.”

Are you open to being taught God’s ways? Do you spend time in his holy and inspired word? If not, why not? Make a resolution to spend more time with God reading his word and praying.
