Share a Good Word!

Share a Good Word!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who are glad when someone shares a good word. In Jesus’ name, amen.

If you are experiencing anxiety, you are not alone. According to National Center for Health Statistics, “In 2019, 8.1% of adults aged 18 and over had symptoms of anxiety disorder.”

Proverbs 12:25 (ESV) is about the effects of anxiety and how you can have the opposite effect.

“Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down,
but a good word makes him glad.”

Realize your words can have a positive impact. When given the chance, make sure to affirm and encourage others.

The Tongue of the Wise Brings Healing!

The Tongue of the Wise Brings Healing!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know the tongue of the wise brings healing. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Words said in anger and in retaliation can damage even those who claim to have thick skin.

Proverbs 12:18 (ESV) is about those words.

“There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts,
but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”

If you have said rash words, ask God’s forgiveness. If appropriate, take steps to apologize. Ask God to take control of all of your actions and particularly your speech.

Listen to Advice!

Listen to Advice!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who listen to advice.

Do you listen to the advice of wise counselors?

I am guilty. I have requested advice, agreed with it, and then delayed taking the advice or followed my own path. Have you ever done that? You have listened, but even though you get sound advice, you don’t act.

Proverbs 12:15 has an answer for all advice seekers.

“The way of a fool is right in his own eyes,
but a wise man listens to advice.”

This verse has a lot to say about who is a fool and who is wise. God can guide us if we will only listen to others, but also ask for God to clarify if the recommended course of action is the right one.

Walk with the Wise!

Walk with the Wise!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who walk with the wise. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Proverbs 11:14 (ESV) says,

“Where there is no guidance, a people falls,
but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.”

Proverbs 13:20 (ESV) is related to the above proverb.

“Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise,
but the companion of fools will suffer harm.”

Parents are often concerned about their children’s friends. With a good peer group, a young person can thrive. In contrast, if a young person starts to associate with the wrong crowd, there is greater potential for problems. Do not spend time with fools or risk the consequences.

Wouldn’t you rather spend time with the wise? Say, “Yes.”

Work the Land!

Work the Land!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who work the land and have plenty of bread. In Jesus’ name, amen.

There is a big distinction between those who work, and those who follow worthless pursuits. During the 1930’s when the United States experienced The Great Depression, my family members were hardworking farmers.

Proverbs 12:11 (ESV) says,
“Whoever works his land will have plenty of bread,
but he who follows worthless pursuits lacks sense.”

The farmers during the depression had food to eat even though it was during hard times.

The second part of the verse characterizes those who follow worthless pursuits. Consider those who waste away hours playing video games.

Others spend endless hours on social media. There are a thousand other pursuits that distract a person from working. If my farmer relatives did not sow, they would not have been able to reap.

Be on guard. Be productive. Work. Put bread on the table.

If you have been struggling to find appropriate employment, keep trying. The next contact could open the doors to success. Make sure to eliminate worthless pursuits. Don’t become one of those who is said to lack sense.

Do Not Cause Trouble in Your Own Household!

Do Not Cause Trouble in Your Own Household!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who do not cause trouble in their own household. In Jesus’ name, amen.

There are plenty of ways to bring trouble on your own household. There are extreme cases like adultery. Others include financial infidelity where one spouse lies to the other about their spending habits. Anger can shake the core of any household.

Proverbs 11:29 (ESV) is about what happens to those who trouble their own household.

“Whoever troubles his own household will inherit the wind,
and the fool will be servant to the wise of heart.”

Are you at risk of inheriting the wind? If you are the cause of trouble in your household, find a way to reconcile. Allow God to change your heart, so you can preserve your family.
