Cry Out For Mercy!

Cry Out For Mercy!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who cry out for mercy. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The author of Psalm 23 makes it clear he sees the Lord is his shepherd.

In Psalm 28:6-9 (ESV) the Lord is portrayed as a personal God who can hear the voice of those who cry out for mercy. Verse 9 refers to a shepherd who will carry God’s people for eternity.

“Blessed be the Lord!
For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy.
The Lord is my strength and my shield;
in him my heart trusts, and I am helped;
my heart exults,
and with my song I give thanks to him.

The Lord is the strength of his people;
he is the saving refuge of his anointed.
Oh, save your people and bless your heritage!
Be their shepherd and carry them forever.”

The Lord saves. Have you pledged to live for him? If not. Why not now?

Flooding Your Bed with Tears?

Flooding Your Bed with Tears?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who at night flood their bed with tears. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Ever cry yourself to sleep? Around the world, there are those who don’t know where their next meal will come from. There are victims of abuse who feel alone and abandoned. There are people caught in the middle of war. God sees each one.

In Psalm 6:6-9 (ESV) the psalmist pours out his heart:

“I am weary with my moaning;
every night I flood my bed with tears;
I drench my couch with my weeping.
My eye wastes away because of grief;
it grows weak because of all my foes.

Depart from me, all you workers of evil,
for the Lord has heard the sound of my weeping.
The Lord has heard my plea;
the Lord accepts my prayer.”

By the end, the author is no longer hopelessness. He is confident. He knows God hears and accepts his prayers. Before drifting off to sleep tonight, please pray for those crying themselves to sleep.

Are You Languishing?

Are You Languishing?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who are languishing. In Jesus name, amen.

Perhaps you know people whose circumstances are desperate. They may be suffering or their health is deteriorating. God is present in the darkest hour.

In Psalm 6:1-4 (ESV), there is a plea and the cry of one who desperately wants God’s intervention and deliverance:

“O Lord, rebuke me not in your anger,
nor discipline me in your wrath.
Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am languishing;
heal me, O Lord, for my bones are troubled.
My soul also is greatly troubled.
But you, O Lord—how long?

Turn, O Lord, deliver my life;
save me for the sake of your steadfast love.”

Say a prayer for those who are desperate for God’s intervention. For those who find themselves thriving, never take for granted God’s blessings. Whatever your circumstances, pray and praise God.

Take Refuge and Rejoice!

Take Refuge and Rejoice!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who take refuge in you and rejoice. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The psalmist urges rejoicing for those who find sanctuary in the Lord’s protection. The words of Psalm 5:11-12 (ESV) offer hope:

“But let all who take refuge in you rejoice;
let them ever sing for joy,
and spread your protection over them,
that those who love your name may exult in you.
For you bless the righteous, O Lord;
you cover him with favor as with a shield.”

These verses describe God’s protection and combine it with singing and honoring God.

Steadfast Love and Faithfulness!

Steadfast Love and Faithfulness!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know God abounds in steadfast love and faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, amen.

According to the notes in the English Standard Version, the “abundance of your steadfast love” is referenced in Exodus 34:5-6 (ESV) when the Lord was with Moses on Mount Sinai:

“The Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, ‘The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.’”

The psalmist makes reference to this event in Psalm 5:7 (ESV):

“But I, through the abundance of your steadfast love,
will enter your house.
I will bow down toward your holy temple
in the fear of you.”

Stop. Take a moment and humble yourself before God. Bask in his steadfast love and faithfulness. Praise him.

Do Not Delight in Wickedness!

Do Not Delight in Wickedness!

I pray for wisdom for those who know God does not delight in wickedness. In Jesus’ name, amen.

God is holy. He does not tolerate certain behavior. In stark contrast to God’s holiness, there are wicked people intent on doing evil.

We learn in Psalm 5:4-5 (ESV) about God’s standards:

“For you are not a God who delights in wickedness;
evil may not dwell with you.

The boastful shall not stand before your eyes;
you hate all evildoers.

You destroy those who speak lies;
the Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.”

If you have done evil acts, God’s holiness requires repentance. Is it time to change? Then change.

Beware of those who are evil.
