Praise the Lord!

Praise the Lord!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know the name of the Lord is to be praised. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Synonyms for the word “praise” include words like exultation, glorification, honor, crown, homage, devotion, worship, reverence, veneration, and adulation.

Psalm 113:1-3 (ESV) puts praising the Lord at the forefront.

“Praise the Lord!
Praise, O servants of the Lord,
praise the name of the Lord!

Blessed be the name of the Lord
from this time forth and forevermore!
From the rising of the sun to its setting,
the name of the Lord is to be praised!”

Some people use the expression, “Praise the Lord” casually. Do you make a habit of praising God? Will knowing the synonyms change the way you think about what it means to praise the Lord? Reread the Psalm. Spend some time praising the Lord!

Sing Praises!

Sing Praises!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who sing praise to your name, O Most High. In Jesus’ name, amen.

I know people who sing in the choir. I also know those who prefer just singing along with the choir while standing or seated with the rest of the congregation. And I also know people who sing only when they are alone. Whether a song leader, or one who is tone deaf, God hears all of our voices.

Psalm 92:1-5 (ESV) is about singing praises along with musical instruments.

“It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to sing praises to your name, O Most High;
to declare your steadfast love in the morning,
and your faithfulness by night,
to the music of the lute and the harp,
to the melody of the lyre.
For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your work;
at the works of your hands I sing for joy.

How great are your works, O Lord!
Your thoughts are very deep! ”

Is your heart filled with praise? Stop now and think of a favorite God-honoring song. Hum or sing the song to the Lord. Give thanks.

Guilt!

Guilt!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who ask God to take away their guilt. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Some people have guilt feelings about their past. David had committed adultery, murder, and cover-up. It was not until Nathan confronted David that David became guilt ridden.

Psalm 51:14-15 (ESV) is evidence of his confidence that God would deliver him.

“Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God,
O God of my salvation,
and my tongue will sing aloud of your righteousness.
O Lord, open my lips,
and my mouth will declare your praise.”

God will be faithful to forgive sin when it is confessed. God can remove the guilt associated with sin.

The forgiveness in David’s life led to praise. If it is appropriate, allow the freedom from guilt to give you an opportunity to sing God’s praise.

Praise Continually!

Praise Continually!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who magnify the Lord and exalt his name continually. In Jesus’ name, amen.

There is something to be said about gathering together to worship God. Imagine being with kindred souls singing praise songs. Experience a personal revival. Yet, during the past few years because of health concerns, some people have opted out of attending Sunday church services, hymn signs, and revival meetings. As an alternative, they have been watching television preachers and other programing.

David, the psalmist, in Psalm 34:1-3 (ESV), shares about praising God alone and with others.

“I will bless the Lord at all times;
his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul makes its boast in the Lord;
let the humble hear and be glad.
Oh, magnify the Lord with me,
and let us exalt his name together!”

Take a moment and think about what David meant when he said “continually.” Praise God continually for one day. Before retiring that night, count the blessings. Then repeat. One day at a time.

Praise for the Proverbs 31 Wife!

Praise for the Proverbs 31 Wife!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for men who praise their Proverbs 31 Wives. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Beginning at Proverbs 31:10, the highest praise is given to one woman who is said in verse Proverbs 31:29 to “surpass them all.”

Yet, today, God has equipped women of faith with incredible ability.

This chapter is often read aloud to honor godly women who go above and beyond.

Proverbs 31:29-31 (ESV) includes the last verses in the book of Proverbs. These provide a capstone to all the other accomplishment and traits that characterize the Proverbs 31 wife.

“Many women have done excellently,
but you surpass them all.”
Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
Give her of the fruit of her hands,
and let her works praise her in the gates.”

Some men fail to express their gratitude even though they are blessed with a godly wife.

Men. Do not take for granted your spouse.

Read Proverbs 31:10-31 aloud to your wife, and praise the Lord for the gift he has given you.

Praise from Others!

Praise from Others!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who receive genuine compliments and praise from others. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Television commercials often include a famous person endorsing a product or service.

Proverbs 27:2 (ESV) is not about goods and services. Rather, it is about others praising you personally.

“Let another praise you, and not your own mouth;
a stranger, and not your own lips.”

Don’t brag about your accomplishments, nor say how great you are.

When others pay compliments, graciously accept the praise. But keep in mind who gets the ultimate glory for all you do and say. It is the Lord God Almighty.
