The Company of the Upright!

The Company of the Upright!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who enjoy being in the company of the upright. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Consider the importance of joining together as believers. Matthew 18:20 (ESV) says,

“For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

Psalm 111:1 (ESV) refers to a much larger gathering.

“Praise the Lord!
I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart,
in the company of the upright, in the congregation.”

The pandemic has caused many to avoid larger gatherings. Meanwhile, many congregations are still experiencing vibrant corporate worship.

Whatever the size of the gathering, enjoy being with other believers. Do as the psalm says, “Praise the Lord.”

Let Everything That Has Breadth?

Let Everything That Has Breadth?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who say, “Let everything that has breadth praise the Lord.” In Jesus’ name, amen.

The last psalm, Psalm 150, provides a fitting conclusion to the Book of Psalms: “Praise the Lord!”

Merriam-Webster.com defines the word doxology as “a usually liturgical expression of praise to God.”

According the New English Standard Version (ESV) of the Bible, there is a note for Psalm 41:13. “Each of the five books of the Psalter ends with a doxology.” (See also 72:18-19; 89:52; 106:48, 150:6) Psalm 150 as a whole concludes both Book 5 and the Psalter.

Psalm 150:1-6 (ESV) is as follows:

“Praise the Lord!
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens!
Praise him for his mighty deeds;
praise him according to his excellent greatness!

Praise him with trumpet sound;
praise him with lute and harp!
Praise him with tambourine and dance;
praise him with strings and pipe!
Praise him with sounding cymbals;
praise him with loud clashing cymbals!
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!”

As the last psalm concludes with praise, so should all who read Psalm 150. Take a while to praise God. Thank him and worship him. Give love and adoration. Praise the Lord!

Join with Nature and Kings?

Join with Nature and Kings?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who join with nature and kings to praise the name of the Lord. In Jesus name, amen.

In Luke 19:39-40 (ESV), on Palm Sunday, Jesus is described as making his way to Jerusalem.

“And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, ‘Teacher, rebuke your disciples.’ He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.”

The psalmist in Psalm 148:7-14 (ESV) describes how all manner of things can praise God.

“Praise the Lord from the earth,
you great sea creatures and all deeps,
fire and hail, snow and mist,
stormy wind fulfilling his word!

Mountains and all hills,
fruit trees and all cedars!
Beasts and all livestock,
creeping things and flying birds!

Kings of the earth and all peoples,
princes and all rulers of the earth!
Young men and maidens together,
old men and children!

Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for his name alone is exalted;
his majesty is above earth and heaven.
He has raised up a horn for his people,
praise for all his saints,
for the people of Israel who are near to him.
Praise the Lord!”

Don’t stand and wait on the sidelines while others are praising God. Praise God right where you are. Now!

Praise the Lord, O My Soul?

Praise the Lord, O My Soul?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who say praise the Lord, O my soul. In Jesus name, amen.

Matt Redman wrote the song “10,000 Reasons,” also known as “Bless the Lord.”

“Bless the Lord oh my soul
Oh my soul
Worship His Holy name
Sing like never before
Oh my soul
I’ll worship Your Holy name
The sun comes up
It’s a new day dawning
It’s time to sing Your song again
Whatever may pass
And whatever lies before me
Let me be singing
When the evening comes”

Instead of having with the words, “Bless the Lord,” Psalm 146 has the words, “Praise the Lord, O my soul!”

The song and the psalm both worship the living God.

Psalm 146:1-2 (ESV) emphasizes praise.

“Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord, O my soul!
I will praise the Lord as long as I live;
I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.”

Are you singing God’s praise with all of your being?

Will you be praising God for as long as you live?

Take time, now, to praise the Lord. Listen to 10,000 Reasons.
