Women Active in the Marketplace!

Women Active in the Marketplace!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for Proverbs 31 Women who are active in the marketplace.

The Proverbs 31 Wife has admirable qualities.

A few of these qualities are mentioned in Proverbs 31:17-18 (ESV).

“She dresses herself with strength
and makes her arms strong.
She perceives that her merchandise is profitable.
Her lamp does not go out at night.”

This wise woman is interested in her merchandise making a profit.

By saying that her lamp does not go out, we see she has planned ahead. Her lamp oil does not run out.

A man with such a wife should be very grateful, indeed.

Keep Your Mouth and Your Tongue!

Keep Your Mouth and Your Tongue!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who keep their mouth and their tongue. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Do you ever recall hearing a comment or comments when someone said something that was inappropriate?

There is an idiomatic expression about someone who sticks their foot in their mouth.

King Solomon in Proverbs 21:23 (ESV) offers wise advice.

“Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue
keeps himself out of trouble.”

Be careful to think before you speak, watch what you say, and guard your words.

Are You Stressed Out?

Are You Stressed Out?

Is your life hectic and chaotic?

Or, is it calm and peaceful?

Is there another adjective or adjectives you would use to describe your situation?

Are emotions under control, or would you say, “No, my emotions are out of control.”

Here is a quick exercise.

Add up all the things on your To Do List.

Then, add in deadlines.

Then, add in people with competing agendas.

Then, add in emergencies.

Then, add in last minute scheduling changes.

Do all the tasks in your life add up to make you feel overwhelmed?

If stress is getting out of control, take a moment and recall the lyrics of the first of Simon and Garfunkel’s song, The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin’ Groovy):

“Slow down, you move too fast
You got to make the morning last
Just kicking down the cobblestones
Looking for fun and feeling groovy
Ba da-da da-da da-da, feeling groovy”

Take a few breaths. Slow down. Pace yourself. Be good to yourself. Ask for help.

Join with Nature and Kings?

Join with Nature and Kings?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who join with nature and kings to praise the name of the Lord. In Jesus name, amen.

In Luke 19:39-40 (ESV), on Palm Sunday, Jesus is described as making his way to Jerusalem.

“And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, ‘Teacher, rebuke your disciples.’ He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.”

The psalmist in Psalm 148:7-14 (ESV) describes how all manner of things can praise God.

“Praise the Lord from the earth,
you great sea creatures and all deeps,
fire and hail, snow and mist,
stormy wind fulfilling his word!

Mountains and all hills,
fruit trees and all cedars!
Beasts and all livestock,
creeping things and flying birds!

Kings of the earth and all peoples,
princes and all rulers of the earth!
Young men and maidens together,
old men and children!

Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for his name alone is exalted;
his majesty is above earth and heaven.
He has raised up a horn for his people,
praise for all his saints,
for the people of Israel who are near to him.
Praise the Lord!”

Don’t stand and wait on the sidelines while others are praising God. Praise God right where you are. Now!

Plead for Mercy?

Plead for Mercy?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who plead for mercy. In Jesus’ name, amen.

In modern warfare, booby traps are used to kill, maim, or otherwise incapacitate an enemy.

In Psalm 142:1-7 (ESV) the psalmist, David, is concerned about the traps set for him, and he cries out to the Lord.

“With my voice I cry out to the Lord;
with my voice I plead for mercy to the Lord.
I pour out my complaint before him;
I tell my trouble before him.

When my spirit faints within me,
you know my way!
In the path where I walk
they have hidden a trap for me.
Look to the right and see:
there is none who takes notice of me;
no refuge remains to me;
no one cares for my soul.

I cry to you, O Lord;
I say, “You are my refuge,
my portion in the land of the living.”
Attend to my cry,
for I am brought very low!
Deliver me from my persecutors,
for they are too strong for me!
Bring me out of prison,
that I may give thanks to your name!
The righteous will surround me,
for you will deal bountifully with me.”

Are some people setting traps for you? Are you feeling persecuted? Whatever your circumstances, be like David, and cry out to God.
