Love and Respect!

Love and Respect!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for husbands to love their wives and for wives to respect their husbands. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Dr. Emerson Eggerichs wrote Love and Respect: The Love She Most Desires; The Respect he Desperately Needs. I remember opening the book and reading about the “crazy cycle.” The Love and Respect PDF summary (https://blog.12min.com/love-and-respect-pdf/) describes it this way: “Without love, she reacts in a disrespectful way; without respect, he reacts in an unloving way.”

The book is based on what Apostle Paul writes in Ephesians 5:33 (ESV):

“However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.”

Marriages face all kinds of challenges. Don’t be discouraged.

There is are other verses that may be instructive. Ephesians 5:20-21 addressed relationships between believers:

“Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.”

Marital relationships can be fulfilling and, at times, challenging. The reciprocity of love and respect when coupled with mutual submission will hopefully provide a construct for discussion, healing, and resolution. God be with you.

Love Casts Out Fear!

Love Casts Out Fear!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know that perfect love casts out fear. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Fear can cause many reactions. Some freeze. Others become excited. Then there are those who react violently. Fear should not be trivialized.

Scripture acknowledges that love and fear exist. Yet, what Scripture says about the combination of fear and love gives a different perspective. The author of 1 John 4:17-18 (NIV) says,

“This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”

The next time fear strikes – stop. Realize how powerful God is. He is in control. Counter fear with love!

Rock, Stronghold, Deliverer?

Rock, Stronghold, Deliverer?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know you are their rock, their stronghold, and deliverer.

Ephesians 3:20-21 (ESV) says,

“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”

In Psalm 144:1-2 (ESV) we hear David testify about God.

“Blessed be the Lord, my rock,
who trains my hands for war,
and my fingers for battle;
he is my steadfast love and my fortress,
my stronghold and my deliverer,
my shield and he in whom I take refuge,
who subdues peoples under me.”

These two verses have insights about the God of the Universe. Have you taken time to trust the one God who provides abundantly, and who David calls, My rock?

Exalted Above All?

Exalted Above All?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know God’s name and his word have been exalted above all. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Psalm 138 is a Psalm of David. David gives a clear declaration of thanks, praise and worship. David references bowing down toward God’s holy temple. The psalm is personal. David had a personal relationship with God. When David called, God answered him.

Psalm 138:1-3 (ESV) says,

“I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart;
before the gods I sing your praise;
I bow down toward your holy temple
and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness,
for you have exalted above all things
your name and your word.
On the day I called, you answered me;
my strength of soul you increased.”

May your conversation with God allow the strength of your soul to be so increased.

Pharaoh Defeated?

Pharaoh Defeated?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know Almighty God defeated Pharaoh. In Jesus name, amen.

During the time of the exodus from Egypt, God did many miracles. God ultimately set the people of Israel free and defeated Pharaoh.

Exodus 15:19 (ESV) tells what happened to who was the most powerful man in Egypt.

“For when the horses of Pharaoh with his chariots and his horsemen went into the sea, the Lord brought back the waters of the sea upon them, but the people of Israel walked on dry ground in the midst of the sea.”

To commemorate God’s victory over Egypt, Psalm 136:10-16 (ESV) recounts the events and miracles.

The psalmist praises God, for his (God’s) steadfast love endures forever.

“To him who struck down the firstborn of Egypt,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
and brought Israel out from among them,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
with a strong hand and an outstretched arm,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
to him who divided the Red Sea in two,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
and made Israel pass through the midst of it,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
but overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red Sea,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
to him who led his people through the wilderness,
for his steadfast love endures forever.”

Pharaoh was swallowed up by the Red Sea, and then Moses led the people of Israel to the Promised Land. Ponder God’s deliverance. Praise him.

Steadfast Love?

Steadfast Love?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who give thanks because your steadfast love endures forever. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Forever is a long, long time. It goes on and on.

God’s steadfast endures forever.

This is humbling to know. Psalm 136:1-3 (ESV) is about giving thanks because of God’s unwavering, unfaltering love.

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods,
for his steadfast love endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords,
for his steadfast love endures forever;”

The words, “for his steadfast love endures forever” repeat. Think about what the words mean. Give thanks for God’s steadfast love?
