A Joyful Noise to the Lord?

A Joyful Noise to the Lord?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who make a joyful noise to the Lord. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The psalms are filled with praise for what God has and will do.

Psalm 98:4-9 (ESV) describes a full-blown praise service including musical instruments. The scene unfolds as all the earth joins in the celebration.

“Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth;
break forth into joyous song and sing praises!
Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre,
with the lyre and the sound of melody!
With trumpets and the sound of the horn
make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord!

Let the sea roar, and all that fills it;
the world and those who dwell in it!
Let the rivers clap their hands;
let the hills sing for joy together
before the Lord, for he comes
to judge the earth.
He will judge the world with righteousness,
and the peoples with equity.”

Take more than a moment to praise God. Listen as the earth sings God’s praise.

Does the Lord Reign?

Does the Lord Reign?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know the Lord reigns. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Not everyone has experienced a flood, yet many can relate to being near a seashore and listening to the roar. When the rushing water of a fast-moving river crashes into rocks, it has a roar of its own. Psalm 93: 1-5 (ESV) affirms the Lord reigns and the floods lift up their voice.

“The Lord reigns; he is robed in majesty;
the Lord is robed; he has put on strength as his belt.
Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved.
Your throne is established from of old;
you are from everlasting.

The floods have lifted up, O Lord,
the floods have lifted up their voice;
the floods lift up their roaring.
Mightier than the thunders of many waters,
mightier than the waves of the sea,
the Lord on high is mighty!

Your decrees are very trustworthy;
holiness befits your house,
O Lord, forevermore.”

The Lord is mightier than the thunders of many waters. Ponder the wonders of creation. God reigns over it all. Does the Lord reign in your life? Do you count his decrees very trustworthy? Ask him to reveal himself. If you know he reigns, praise him.

The Desires of Your Heart?

The Desires of Your Heart?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who delight themselves in the Lord. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Although those who do evil may be lurking nearby, Scripture tells us to “fret not.” God is in control.

Psalm 37:1-4 (ESV) tells us what happens to evil ones, and how we should react.

“Fret not yourself because of evildoers;
be not envious of wrongdoers!
For they will soon fade like the grass
and wither like the green herb.

Trust in the Lord, and do good;
dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
Delight yourself in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

Have confidence and take pleasure in the Lord. Reread the last four lines. Praise God, for they are filled with hope.

Praise Continually?

Praise Continually?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who magnify the Lord and exalt his name continually. In Jesus’ name, amen.

There is something to be said about gathering together to worship God. Imagine being with kindred souls singing praise songs. Experience a personal revival. Yet, because of health concerns, some people have opted out of attending Sunday church services, hymn signs, and revival meetings. As an alternative, they have been watching television preachers and other programing.

David, the psalmist, in Psalm 34:1-3 (ESV), shares about praising God alone and with others.

“I will bless the Lord at all times;
his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul makes its boast in the Lord;
let the humble hear and be glad.
Oh, magnify the Lord with me,
and let us exalt his name together!”

Take a moment and think about what David meant when he said “continually.” Praise God continually for one day. Before retiring that night, count the blessings. Then repeat one day at a time.
