Mere Talk Tends Only to Poverty!

Mere Talk Tends Only to Poverty!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who toil. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Have you ever heard the phrase, “Talk is cheap?”

One friend put it this way, “Big hat. No cattle.”

There are those who are all talk, but they do not take action.

Proverbs 14:23 (ESV) is about those who do the work, and those who are all talk.

“In all toil there is profit,
but mere talk tends only to poverty.”

Don’t look back on life and realize you missed opportunities to work hard and reap the benefits.

Make sure to take action. Do the work.

Avoid Backsliding!

Avoid Backsliding!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who do not want to backslide. In Jesus’s name, amen.

Those who backslide, revert to sin.

In an article on Crosswalk.com, “What it Means to Backslide and How to Recover,” Dr. Roger Barrier defines “‘backsliding’ as an interruption or step backward in our spiritual growth.”

Solomon, in Proverbs 14:14 (ESV), describes both the backslider and a good man.

“The backslider in heart will be filled with the fruit of his ways,
and a good man will be filled with the fruit of his ways.”

What kind of fruit do you produce?

Avoid temptation. If you have backslidden, repent.

James 4:8 (ESV) says,

“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”

If you are a believer, draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.

Leave an Inheritance to Your Children’s Children!

Leave an Inheritance to Your Children’s Children!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who leave an inheritance to their children’s children. In Jesus’s name, amen.

An inheritance can be financial. It can also be about leaving a legacy of faith.

Proverbs 13:22 (ESV) is about leaving a financial legacy.

“A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children,
but the sinner’s wealth is laid up for the righteous.”

Notice what happens to the sinner’s wealth. If it goes to the righteous. Then the righteous have an opportunity to leave an inheritance to their children’s children.

Do pass on a legacy of faith to your children’s children. Share about how knowing Jesus changed your life.

Walk with the Wise!

Walk with the Wise!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who walk with the wise. In Jesus’s name, amen.

Proverbs 11:14 (ESV) says,

“Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.”

Proverbs 13:20 (ESV) is related to the above proverb.

“Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise,
but the companion of fools will suffer harm.”

Parents are often concerned about their children’s friends. With a good peer group, a young person can thrive. In contrast, if a young person starts to associate with the wrong crowd, there is greater potential for one or more problems.

Do not spend time with fools. The consequences can be catastrophic.

Wouldn’t you rather spend time with those who are wise? Say, “Yes.”

Hope Deferred!

Hope Deferred!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those whose hope is deferred. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Some people are said to be “heart sick.”

The burdens of a sad person can be overwhelming.

Proverbs 13:12 provides contrast to those who have hope deferred and those who see their desires fulfilled.

“Hope deferred makes the heart sick,
but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.”

What a stark contract.

Are there actions you can take to allow your desires to be fulfilled? If there are steps you can take, make plans to take them, and then act upon those plans.
