Does The Lord Turn a King’s Heart?

Does The Lord Turn a King’s Heart?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know the Lord turns a king’s heart wherever he will. In Jesus’s name, amen.

World leaders are powerful people. They have advisors, security details, supporters, and detractors.

Some think they are in control. But this is not the case.

Proverbs 21:1 (ESV) tells us who is in charge.

“The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will.”

Some people act like kings in the workplace and at home.

Stop thinking business and political leaders have destiny in their hands.

Rather, acknowledge God!

He is the true power behind the throne. Behind your throne, too.

Do You Have Hearing Ears and Seeing Eyes?

Do You Have Hearing Ears and Seeing Eyes?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who are blessed with hearing and sight. In Jesus’s name, amen.

In the fifth grade, a teacher asked, “Have you ever had your eyes checked.”

I said, “No.”

My first glasses changed everything. I could see, so I could read.

Proverbs 20:12 (ESV) is about who gives us our senses.

“The hearing ear and the seeing eye,
the Lord has made them both.”

Be thankful for your senses. Take time to marvel at what the Lord has done by giving us the gift of hearing and sight.

Do not overlook the idea that the Lord can use our hearing ears and our seeing eyes to allow us to learn more about Him.

Will You Encourage a Child’s Pure and Upright Conduct?

Will You Encourage a Child’s Pure and Upright Conduct?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those children whose conduct is pure and upright. In Jesus’s name, amen.

In law, in some jurisdictions, a child of age eight can be held responsible for their actions. Courts have ruled that a child of this age has the ability to form willful intent to act.

Parents, share with your children Proverbs 20:11 (ESV) which is about a child’s reputation.

“Even a child makes himself known by his acts,
by whether his conduct is pure and upright.”

Help your children to build a good reputation.

Give praise for pure and upright behavior.

Did You Know Sluggards Do Not Reap!

Did You Know Sluggards Do Not Reap!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who plow in the autumn and reap a great harvest. In Jesus’s name, amen.

I know some farmers who have been around farming their whole lives. With years of experience, they know when to plant, how to use their equipment, how to increase the nutrients in the soil, and when to harvest. Their crop’s yields are higher than others who own nearby farms.

Those I know have times when they work very hard.

Proverbs 20:4 (ESV) is about a different kind of farmer.

“The sluggard does not plow in the autumn;
he will seek at harvest and have nothing.”

Unlike the farmers I know, this sluggard does not invest his time in preparing the soil, or planting seeds. What does the sluggard expect?

Solomon, says the sluggard will seek at harvest. It is odd how there is an expectation even though the field was never planted.

What can be learned from wise farmers and those like this one in Proverbs?

Work hard. Plow. Only then, expect high yields.

Do You Ever Stray From The Words of Knowledge?

Do You Ever Stray From The Words of Knowledge?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who do not stray from the words of knowledge. In Jesus’s name, amen.

Some people are reluctant to take advice. Ever met one of these close-minded individuals?

Morally relativistic people do not want to be judged. They often believe there are no standards by which they can judge others. For many of these people, the Bible is no longer a standard to be believed, let alone lived by.

Proverbs 19:27 (ESV) warns against ignoring godly instruction.

“Cease to hear instruction, my son,
and you will stray from the words of knowledge.”

It is very easy to get off track. Take a few minutes to read Scripture aloud. This verse is about hearing instruction.

Romans 10:17 (ESV) says,

“So faith comes from hearing,
and hearing through the word of Christ.”

Listen to God’s Word. Do not stray from the words of knowledge.

Do You Listen to Advice and Accept Instruction?

Do You Listen to Advice and Accept Instruction?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who listen to advice and accept instruction. In Jesus’s name, amen.

King Solomon repeats and idea that individuals need to listen to advice and accept instruction. That doesn’t mean from just anyone. Who one listens to and accepts instruction from makes all the difference. That is where discernment becomes essential.

The second part of the Proverbs 19:20 (ESV) explains what the payoff is when someone listens and accepts the right advice and instruction.

“Listen to advice and accept instruction,
that you may gain wisdom in the future.”

Taking advice and instruction based on biblical principles will help any individual gain wisdom.
