Are You On God’s Side Or On The Side of Men?

Are You On God’s Side Or On The Side of Men?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who are placed in a position where they must decide whether to obey God or men. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Many people find themselves at odds with authority figures. There can be a host of reasons.

The apostles were faced with a choice about testifying to Christ or obeying the edicts of a council made up of men.

Luke tells the story in Acts 5:27-29 (ESV):

“And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest questioned them, saying, ‘We strictly charged you not to teach in this name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.’ But Peter and the apostles answered, ‘We must obey God rather than men.’”

The apostles were clear about their position. God took precedence. Ever been in a position where you are pressed to choose? If and when such a situation arises: Pray! Ask God’s direction about how to proceed.

Jerusalem, All Judea, and Samaria!

Jerusalem, All Judea, and Samaria!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who are Christ’s witnesses locally, regionally, and globally. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Are you willing to talk about how your life changed upon coming to faith?

In Act 1:8 (ESV) the author, Luke, quotes Jesus.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Heed the call! Plant seeds of faith. Share the Gospel.

Are you close to home? Build a community, develop relationships, and use what some call “friendship evangelism.”

What if God calls you to a faraway land? Wherever you go, be on the lookout for opportunities to share about Jesus.

Fear and Bless?

Fear and Bless?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for “You who fear the Lord, bless the Lord.” In Jesus’ name, amen.

As the world celebrates Easter, let us remember those who do not have hope in a risen savior. Some have never heard. Others have made a conscious decision not to acknowledge God role in creation or his victory over death.

Psalm 135:19-21 (ESV) reminds us to bless the Lord.

“O house of Israel, bless the Lord!
O house of Aaron, bless the Lord!
O house of Levi, bless the Lord!
You who fear the Lord, bless the Lord!
Blessed be the Lord from Zion,
he who dwells in Jerusalem!
Praise the Lord!”

If you believe, give thanks for the resurrection and the life everlasting.

Everyone Who Fears the Lord?

Everyone Who Fears the Lord?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways. In Jesus’ name, amen.

“Blessed” is a loaded word.

Matthew 5 begins with the well-known section of Scripture known as the Beatitudes.

Psalm 128:1-6 (ESV) also begins with the word “blessed,” and describes the blessings connected with fearing the Lord.

“Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord,
who walks in his ways!
You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands;
you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you.

Your wife will be like a fruitful vine
within your house;
your children will be like olive shoots
around your table.
Behold, thus shall the man be blessed
who fears the Lord.

The Lord bless you from Zion!
May you see the prosperity of Jerusalem
all the days of your life!
May you see your children’s children!
Peace be upon Israel!”

In verse two, the phrase, “It shall be well with you,” is used. What a comfort. Fear God. Blessings will be unto you.

The Lord Surrounds?

The Lord Surrounds?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who you surround from this time forth and forevermore. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Imagine trusting God so much that your faith became immovable. Then, consider being surrounded and protected by Almighty God.

Psalm 125:1-2 (ESV) offers this kind of hope.

“Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion,
which cannot be moved, but abides forever.
As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
so the Lord surrounds his people,
from this time forth and forevermore.”

Have you trusted Almighty God? Do you feel surrounded by his love and grace? If so, rejoice. If not, perhaps it is now time to confess your sins, and ask Christ to come into your heart. Don’t delay.
