Give Freely!

Give Freely!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who give freely. In Jesus’s name, amen.

1 Corinthians 9:7 (ESV) says,

“Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

Proverbs 11:24 (ESV) is also about giving.

“One gives freely, yet grows all the richer;
another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.”

Do you give generously? Are you stingy? God’s word defines the person who gives and the one who withholds. Be open to giving above and beyond what you are used to. Make sure to do so without reservation. God will know your heart.

What’s The Difference Between The Scoffer and the Wise Person?

What’s The Difference Between The Scoffer and the Wise Person?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who will reprove a wise person. In Jesus’s name, amen.

The synonyms for the word “reprove” include rebuke, scold, and reprimand.

The synonyms for the word “scoff” include jeer, jibe, sneer, poke, and insult.

Proverbs 9:7-12 (ESV) shows the difference between a scoffer and a wise person.

“Whoever corrects a scoffer gets himself abuse,
and he who reproves a wicked man incurs injury.
Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you;
reprove a wise man, and he will love you.
Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser;
teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.
For by me your days will be multiplied,
and years will be added to your life.
If you are wise, you are wise for yourself;
if you scoff, you alone will bear it.”

Which are you? Do you ever fall into the category of a scoffer? Or, are you willing to accept rebuke and criticism and change for the better?

Why Is It Better to Find Wisdom, Find Life, and Favor From the Lord?

Why Is It Better to Find Wisdom, Find Life, and Favor From the Lord?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom, for whoever finds wisdom finds life and obtains favor from you. In Jesus’s name, amen.

Proverbs 8:12 says,

“I, wisdom, dwell with prudence,
and I find knowledge and discretion.”

Wisdom continues to be personified in Proverbs 8:32-36 (ESV) as though Wisdom is speaking because this section is in quotation marks.

“’And now, O sons, listen to me:
blessed are those who keep my ways.
Hear instruction and be wise,
and do not neglect it.
Blessed is the one who listens to me,
watching daily at my gates,
waiting beside my doors.
For whoever finds me finds life
and obtains favor from the Lord,
but he who fails to find me injures himself;
all who hate me love death.’”

What are you doing to seek wisdom? Given that this section of Scripture says, “Seek wisdom and find life,” persist in your quest for Godly wisdom.

What Do We Learn When Wisdom is Personified?

What Do We Learn When Wisdom is Personified?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for by it kings reign and rulers decree what is just. In Jesus’s name, amen.

How would you like to meet wisdom?

Proverbs provides an opportunity to get a glimpse of many aspects of wisdom.

Yet, in Proverbs 8:12-21 (ESV), we get an insider’s perspective of wisdom when wisdom is personified.

“I, wisdom, dwell with prudence,
and I find knowledge and discretion.
The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil.
Pride and arrogance and the way of evil
and perverted speech I hate.
I have counsel and sound wisdom;
I have insight; I have strength.
By me kings reign,
and rulers decree what is just;
by me princes rule,
and nobles, all who govern justly.
I love those who love me,
and those who seek me diligently find me.
Riches and honor are with me,
enduring wealth and righteousness.
My fruit is better than gold, even fine gold,
and my yield than choice silver.
I walk in the way of righteousness,
in the paths of justice,
granting an inheritance to those who love me,
and filling their treasuries.”

Now that you know what wisdom thinks, are you willing to take the next step? Will you ask God for his wisdom to guide and direct your paths?

Say, “Yes!” Submit to his will.

Why Is Wisdom Is Better Than Jewels?

Why Is Wisdom Is Better Than Jewels?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom because it is better than jewels. In Jesus’s name, amen.

Just how valuable is wisdom?

Scripture says, “Take instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold.”

King Solomon in Proverbs 8:6-11 (ESV) emphasizes wisdom’s value.

“Hear, for I will speak noble things,
and from my lips will come what is right,
for my mouth will utter truth;
wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
All the words of my mouth are righteous;
there is nothing twisted or crooked in them.
They are all straight to him who understands,
and right to those who find knowledge.
Take my instruction instead of silver,
and knowledge rather than choice gold,
for wisdom is better than jewels,
and all that you may desire cannot compare with her.”

Why Men Should Stay Away From Forbidden Women?

Why Men Should Stay Away From Forbidden Women?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who heed King Solomon’s message about staying away from forbidden women. In Jesus’s name, amen.

Wise men stay away from the adulteresses with her smooth words.

In Proverbs 7:1-5 (ESV) King Solomon, writing God-given words, urges the readers of Proverbs to treasure up his commandments.

“My son, keep my words
and treasure up my commandments with you;
keep my commandments and live;
keep my teaching as the apple of your eye;
bind them on your fingers;
write them on the tablet of your heart.
Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,”
and call insight your intimate friend,
to keep you from the forbidden woman,
from the adulteress with her smooth words.”

Speaking to his son, King Solomon, King David passed on fatherly advice. He wanted his children to value wisdom. He also wanted them to avoid the pitfalls of sexual sin.

Today, it is important to take the King’s advice. Steer clear of temptation and don’t let down your guard.
