Cry Out for God?

Cry Out for God?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who cry out to you for help. In Jesus’ name, amen.

People can cry out the God for a million different reasons. It can be in desperation, in defeat, at a moment of loss, or in a crisis. Whatever the circumstances, God is aware.

Psalm 119:145-152 (ESV) begins with a whole hearted cry to the Lord.

“With my whole heart I cry; answer me, O Lord!
I will keep your statutes.
I call to you; save me,
that I may observe your testimonies.
I rise before dawn and cry for help;
I hope in your words.
My eyes are awake before the watches of the night,
that I may meditate on your promise.
Hear my voice according to your steadfast love;
O Lord, according to your justice give me life.
They draw near who persecute me with evil purpose;
they are far from your law.
But you are near, O Lord,
and all your commandments are true.
Long have I known from your testimonies
that you have founded them forever.”

Are you at a point where you are crying out to God? If not, consider approaching holy God with reverence and honor. If yes, you are crying out, I believe God led you to read this post. Jesus Christ said in John 14:6 (ESV), “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Will you trust his holy and inspired word? It is okay to cry out like the psalmist. Live expecting God to intervene in yours and other’s lives.

Understanding That I May Live?

Understanding That I May Live?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know you give understanding, so your followers may live. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Students study hard to do well in their classes. They strive to understand what is being taught. A great deal of time is devoted to mastering subjects. How is it that one can understand Scripture, so it leads to life?

Psalm 119:137-144 (ESV) concludes with a plea for this kind of understanding.

“Righteous are you, O Lord,
and right are your rules.
You have appointed your testimonies in righteousness
and in all faithfulness.
My zeal consumes me,
because my foes forget your words.
Your promise is well tried,
and your servant loves it.
I am small and despised,
yet I do not forget your precepts.
Your righteousness is righteous forever,
and your law is true.
Trouble and anguish have found me out,
but your commandments are my delight.
Your testimonies are righteous forever;
give me understanding that I may live.”

Scripture has a life-giving message. The psalmist confirms there is a link between understanding and life. Do you acknowledge Scripture as being the truth? Do you trust God to provide life? Seek him. Praise him. Rejoice. Ask for understanding that you may live.

Your Words Give Light?

Your Words Give Light?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who agree “the unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.” In Jesus’ name, amen.

The Bible is God’s word.

According to 2 Timothy 3:16 (ESV)
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.”

Psalm 119:129-136 (ESV) says that God’s words give light.

“Your testimonies are wonderful;
therefore my soul keeps them.
The unfolding of your words gives light;
it imparts understanding to the simple.
I open my mouth and pant,
because I long for your commandments.
Turn to me and be gracious to me,
as is your way with those who love your name.
Keep steady my steps according to your promise,
and let no iniquity get dominion over me.
Redeem me from man’s oppression,
that I may keep your precepts.
Make your face shine upon your servant,
and teach me your statutes.
My eyes shed streams of tears,
because people do not keep your law.”

Trust what God says in Scripture. Take time to pray. Ask God to show you his truth as you read.

Love Commandments Above Gold, Above Fine Gold?

Love Commandments Above Gold, Above Fine Gold?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who say they “love your commandments above gold, above fine gold.” In Jesus’ name, amen.

If you did not have access to a Bible, how much would you be willing to pay for one? Perhaps you, like a lot of people, have more than one in your home.

Meanwhile, around the world, translators work tirelessly to complete Bible translations for unreached people groups, so men and women, boys and girls, who do not have access to Scripture can have access to one in their own language.

In Psalm 119:121-128 (ESV) we see the value placed on God’s commandments. The psalmists loves them more than gold. That is not just any gold. It is fine gold. Gold that has been refined and refined again to remove impurities.

“I have done what is just and right;
do not leave me to my oppressors.
Give your servant a pledge of good;
let not the insolent oppress me.
My eyes long for your salvation
and for the fulfillment of your righteous promise.
Deal with your servant according to your steadfast love,
and teach me your statutes.
I am your servant; give me understanding,
that I may know your testimonies!
It is time for the Lord to act,
for your law has been broken.
Therefore I love your commandments
above gold, above fine gold.
Therefore I consider all your precepts to be right;
I hate every false way.”

Do you spend time reading your Bible? Have you come to value the words of Scripture, or have you begun to take your Bible for granted. It is worn out, or is it gathering dust? Perhaps it is time to dust off God’s word and recommit to daily reading.

Depart Evildoers?

Depart Evildoers?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who say depart from me, you evildoers. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Do not run with the wrong crowd. Having a healthy respect for God’s judgment can be life changing. When a person realizes that a holy God will not tolerate any evil, the awareness of the need for a savior takes on real significance.

Psalm 119:115-120 concludes with the idea of being afraid of God’s judgment.

“Depart from me, you evildoers,
that I may keep the commandments of my God.
Uphold me according to your promise, that I may live,
and let me not be put to shame in my hope!
Hold me up, that I may be safe
and have regard for your statutes continually!
You spurn all who go astray from your statutes,
for their cunning is in vain.
All the wicked of the earth you discard like dross,
therefore I love your testimonies.
My flesh trembles for fear of you,
and I am afraid of your judgments.”

God sent his Son. Jesus was that perfect sacrifice for sin. He sets the prisoners free from God’s wrath. Trust him.

A Hiding Place?

A Hiding Place?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know you are their hiding place. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Hope can be life changing. Imagine going from a feeling of hopeless desperation to a positive and optimistic attitude.

“You Are My Hiding Place” is a praise song written by Carol Cumbala. It begins,

“You are my hiding place
You always fill my heart
With songs of deliverance
Whenever I am afraid

I will trust in You
I will trust in You
Let the weak say
I am strong
In the strength of the Lord“

Psalm 119:114 is about the psalmist’s hope in God’s word.

“You are my hiding place and my shield;
I hope in your word.”

People with hope in God’s word, trust what Scripture says. This firm foundation is what allows worshipers to sing to God, “You are my hiding place.” If you do not have a hiding place, pray and ask God to show you how he can be your hiding place.
