Take Refuge and Rejoice!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who take refuge in you and rejoice. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The psalmist urges rejoicing for those who find sanctuary in the Lord’s protection. The words of Psalm 5:11-12 (ESV) offer hope:

“But let all who take refuge in you rejoice;
let them ever sing for joy,
and spread your protection over them,
that those who love your name may exult in you.
For you bless the righteous, O Lord;
you cover him with favor as with a shield.”

These verses describe God’s protection and combine it with singing and honoring God.

Steadfast Love and Faithfulness!

Steadfast Love and Faithfulness!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know God abounds in steadfast love and faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, amen.

According to the notes in the English Standard Version, the “abundance of your steadfast love” is referenced in Exodus 34:5-6 (ESV) when the Lord was with Moses on Mount Sinai:

“The Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, ‘The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.’”

The psalmist makes reference to this event in Psalm 5:7 (ESV):

“But I, through the abundance of your steadfast love,
will enter your house.
I will bow down toward your holy temple
in the fear of you.”

Stop. Take a moment and humble yourself before God. Bask in his steadfast love and faithfulness. Praise him.

Do Not Delight in Wickedness!

Do Not Delight in Wickedness!

I pray for wisdom for those who know God does not delight in wickedness. In Jesus’ name, amen.

God is holy. He does not tolerate certain behavior. In stark contrast to God’s holiness, there are wicked people intent on doing evil.

We learn in Psalm 5:4-5 (ESV) about God’s standards:

“For you are not a God who delights in wickedness;
evil may not dwell with you.

The boastful shall not stand before your eyes;
you hate all evildoers.

You destroy those who speak lies;
the Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.”

If you have done evil acts, God’s holiness requires repentance. Is it time to change? Then change.

Beware of those who are evil.

Need a Good Night’s Sleep?

Need a Good Night’s Sleep?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who need to lie down and sleep in peace. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Insomnia can result in going to sleep too late, waking up too early, or a combination of the two. Sleep deprivation can result in a host of health-related issues. Some people would give anything for a good night’s sleep.

Proverbs 3:5 (ESV) says,

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding..”

The psalmists tells us in Psalm 4:8 (ESV) what happens:

“In peace I will both lie down and sleep;
for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.”

Sleep and dwelling in safety are a winning combination.

These verses bring hope and comfort to the sleep deprived.

Calling Out to God!

Calling Out to God!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for all those who call out to you in prayer.

Prayer is having a conversation with God.

John Denver wrote, “Talked to God and listened to the casual reply,” in his song, “Rocky Mountain High.”

Listen to the psalmist’s heartfelt plea and the confidence he has in God in Psalm 4:1-3 (ESV):

“Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness!
You have given me relief when I was in distress.
Be gracious to me and hear my prayer!

O men, how long shall my honor be turned into shame?
How long will you love vain words and seek after lies? Selah
But know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself;
the Lord hears when I call to him.”

How is God prompting you to pray? Pray for as long as you need.

Healed and Raised!

Healed and Raised!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who rejoice when they heard about a healing and a life restored. In Jesus’ name, amen.

God used Peter to heal a man. Then God used him to bring a woman back to life.

We learn about the first in Acts 9:32-35 (ESV):

“Now as Peter went here and there among them all, he came down also to the saints who lived at Lydda. There he found a man named Aeneas, bedridden for eight years, who was paralyzed. And Peter said to him, ‘Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you; rise and make your bed.’ And immediately he rose. And all the residents of Lydda and Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord.”

According to the notes to the English Standard Version of the Bible, the name Tabitha is an Aramaic name that is translated as Dorcas in Greek. The name means gazelle. This woman’s story is found in Acts 9. People were mourning her loss when Peter arrived. What follows is found in Acts 9:40-42:

“But Peter put them all outside, and knelt down and prayed; and turning to the body he said, ‘Tabitha, arise.’ And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up. And he gave her his hand and raised her up. Then, calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive. And it became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed in the Lord.”

News spread fast. Thank God for Peter’s ministry to those in need. Give thanks.
