Envy Others?

Envy Others?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who find themselves becoming envious. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Scripture warns against coveting in Exodus 20:17.

Still, some believers envy others’ possessions, relationships, and stations in life.

1 Corinthians 13:4 (ESV) says,

“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant.”

The way of love is clear. It does not focus on what one does not have or what one wants. Love is other-centered. Find yourself envying others? Take steps to stop jealous desire. Love others.

Are You Boastful?

Are You Boastful?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who are trying to avoid being boastful. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Boastful attention-seekers are most often prideful.

Everything is about them and their interests. On social media self-promoters are constantly boasting.

Apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthian 13:4 (ESV) love and boasting are mutually exclusive.

”Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant.”

The phrase “love does not…boast” is a warning for those that have a problem with boastful behavior.

Stop. Think. What to self-promote? Do it in love. What needs to change, so love takes the place of boasting?

Are You Kind?

Are You Kind?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who want to be more kind. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Being kind, sympathetic, and caring are traits some exhibit naturally.

In contrast, there are those who struggle in this area.

It has been said;

“It is not what you say,
but how you say it
that makes all the difference.”

Tone of voice and nonverbal communication can result in something sounding kind or unkind.

1 Corinthians 13:4 (ESV) is about love and more.

”Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant.”

As we show love to others, let us attempt to always be kind. If ever one falters. Be quick to apologize and make amends.

Are You Patient?

Are You Patient?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those strive to be patient. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Know anyone with an I-want-it-now attitude?

For some, patience can be illusive. Love, however, can dramatically change a person’s attitude. Add love to the top of a person’s agenda, and he or she can more calmly cope with life’s inevitable twists and turns.

We are not on our timetable. We are on God’s. Rather than be impatient and stressed, why not trust the Lord to provide patience. Apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 13:4 (ESV),

“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant.”

Want to be a loving person?

Extend grace to yourself and others.
Stop living for instant gratification.
Become more patient.

Commendation from God?

Commendation from God?

I pray for wisdom for those who have faith that believers will receive commendation from God. In Jesus’ name, amen.

In a courtroom, the word “judgement” implies there will be a ruling or decision about the case.

To some this may seem ominous. To others the prospect of judgement may be a relief, even a joy.

Apostle Paul knew he would be judged. The Lord would be passing judgement. Paul says at the end of 1 Corinthians 4:4 (ESV): “It is the Lord who judges me.”

Paul goes on to say in verse 5, “Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God.”

Are you ready to face the judge? Judgement is coming. It could be good. It could be bad. Be prepared.

Know Your Spiritual Gifts?

Know Your Spiritual Gifts?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who use their spiritual gifts for the common good. In Jesus’ name, amen.

God has provided each believer with supernaturally provided spiritual gifts.

Some don’t know they have gifts. Others know they have them, but they don’t use their gifts.

The Apostle Paul writes about spiritual gifts in 1 Corinthians 12:4-7 (ESV):

“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.”

Using your gifts will benefit the body of believers. Need to learn more about spiritual gifts? There are online inventories where anyone can find out about their giftedness.
