Are You Prepared?

Are You Prepared?

I pray for wisdom for those who need to be prepared for an attack. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Ever learn that someone is out to get you? How did you prepare?

In the fourth chapter of Nehemiah we learn that teams of builders were working on Jerusalem’s wall when word came that opposition forces were plotting to disrupt the construction.

It says in Nehemiah 4:8 (ESV): “And they all plotted together to come and fight against Jerusalem and to cause confusion in it.” The response? Prayer.

Verse 9 says: “And we prayed to our God and set a guard as a protection against them day and night.”

Then, reinforcements – although at first reluctant – arrived. And, equipped with spears, shields, bows, and coats of mail, they prepared to protect the workers.

Are you a wall builder? Are you called to protect others? In whatever capacity, be prepared! Serve with distinction.

Who, Me? Be Strong and Courageous?

Who, Me? Be Strong and Courageous?

Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who need to be reminded to be strong and courageous. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Being strong not only implies being physically able, but strong can also mean having mental toughness.

That’s what it means in the first chapter of Joshua, where God has to tell Joshua more than once what he requires.

He says in Joshua 1:6 (ESV): “Be strong and courageous, for you shall cause this people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them.”
In verse 9, God repeats his command:, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

Being strong and courageous is not just for Joshua. Take action. Be strong and courageous from now on.

The National Day of Prayer: The Formula for Success?

The National Day of Prayer: The Formula for Success?

Lord, I pray for wisdom for people who strive to be successful. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Is there a formula for success in Scripture? God told Moses’ successor, Joshua, in Joshua 1:8 (ESV), “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous and then you will have good success.”

Start today! Find a verse. A short one will work. You could take a verses from one of the Wisdom Prayers. Learn it. Ponder how it applies to your life. Tell me what you think below.

Me? Say Hello?

Me? Say Hello?

Lord, I pray for wisdom for people as they greet others. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Some avoid eye contact. Others seem unapproachable. Then there are those who offer a pleasant greeting.

Paul greets his readers warmly when he writes in Ephesians 1:2 (ESV): “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Imagine being with a group of first century believers, and you could understand the language as you hear this letter read out loud.

The way this is written, it is a blessing.

How we greet others can change everything for those we encounter.

Greet others with joy.

Is Your God Too Small?

Is Your God Too Small?

Lord, I pray for wisdom for people who place limitations on God. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Got a big problem? Got a small god?

In polytheistic cultures, people have a choice among many gods. If a person has a big problem, it only makes sense to worship the most powerful god.

Christ rose from the dead. What is more powerful than that?

Ephesians 3:20-21 (ESV) reinforces the idea of Christ’s wonderworking power: “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”

Never doubt what a mighty God we serve.

Feeling Shame and Guilt?

Feeling Shame and Guilt?

Lord, I pray for wisdom for those struggling with feelings of shame and guilt. In Jesus’ name, amen.

China is often characterized as being an honor/shame society.

Being personally honorable and bringing honor to the family is vital.

However, whenever a person falters, the shame reflects not only on the person but also on the family.

An individual and a family can carry the burden of shameful acts for a lifetime, and this dishonor can even be passed down generationally.

Anyone with a burden of shame can trust the Apostle Paul when he writes in Ephesians 1:7-8 (ESV): “In [Christ] we have redemption thorough his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight.”

Be wise! Know shame and guilt are defeated!

Trust in Christ.

Stop the guilt and shame once and for all!
