Ambitious?

Ambitious?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who want to avoid selfish ambition or conceit. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Selfish ambition and conceited behavior are both problematic.

What is the alternative?
Think about others.

Apostle Paul wanted the people of Philippi to get along. To assure this happened, he writes in Philippians 2:3-4 (ESV): “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”

This advice is applicable today. Be humble. Build relationships.

Is Anyone Worthy?

Is Anyone Worthy?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who want to live a life worthy of the Gospel of Christ. In Jesus’ name, amen.

How can anyone live a life worthy of the Gospel of Christ? By standing firm!

The Apostle Paul gives marching orders when he says in Philippians 1:27-28 (ESV), “Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel, and not frightened in anything by your opponents. This is a clear sign to them of their destruction, but of your salvation, and that from God.”

Do not cower in the face of opposition. Stand. Firm. In one spirit. Not frightened!

To Die Is Gain?

To Die Is Gain?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know that to live is Christ, and to die is gain. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Apostle Paul wrote the church at Philippi knowing he could be put to death at any time.

He makes a statement that causes believers to think deeply about what it means to live for Jesus. Philippians 1:21 (ESV) says, “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”

Are you ready to make such a statement? Are you committed to live for Christ? If so, make every day count. Stay on track. Pray. When the end comes, believe and spend eternity with Jesus.

Work in Progress?

Work in Progress?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for people to know that he who began a good work will be faithful to complete it. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Ever heard someone say, “Give it time.” Impatient people can be found everywhere. Our instant gratification culture can be seen in everything from on-demand movies to fast food.

In God’s economy things take time.
Apostle Paul says in Philippians 1:6 (ESV), “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”

It may be very hard, but accept God’s timing. We can live by the promise: God will “bring it to completion” even if it takes longer than we expect. Be patient. Let God.

Paul’s Wisdom Prayer?

Paul’s Wisdom Prayer?

Dear Lord, I pray for the wisdom and insight of believers, that they may grow in spiritual wisdom and greater knowledge of you. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Apostle Paul interceded for the church in Ephesus. He was deliberate. He wanted to see believers mature in spiritual wisdom and knowledge of the Almighty.

In Ephesians 1:17 (NIV) Paul says, “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.”

Seek the wisdom and knowledge of God. Don’t stop. Pursue it through reading your Bible and through prayer.

Lacking Unity among Believers?

Lacking Unity among Believers?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for people of faith needing to resolve bitter disagreements. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Ever know anyone involved in a family feud?

Disagreements happen, but ongoing grudges and bitterness can be devastating.

It is so sad when brothers and sisters in Christ split. Are you in opposition to other believers? Stop for a minute and think about the options. Do you want to stay upset or do you want to find a way to get along?

Psalm 133:1 (ESV) says: “Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!”

When people pass away with unresolved issues, reconciliation may not be possible.

Try to settle differences while there is still time. This may require taking a leap of faith. Recall what songwriter Don Moen wrote: “God can make a way when there seems to be no way.”
