Rejoice in Suffering?

Rejoice in Suffering?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who are suffering. In Jesus’ name, amen.

In both our physical or emotional suffering, God is with us. How can it be that Paul links suffering to hope? Romans 5:2-4 (ESV) says:

“Through him (Jesus) we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.”

Follow the logic: If a person suffers, they have to endure much. Endurance has the idea of being able to carry on even when things in life are difficult.

Paul says that during the process of enduring one is building character.

In the end, the character in turn produces hope. Don’t give up in the face of suffering. Have hope in life everlasting! Let me know what you think.

Know Your Spiritual Gifts?

Know Your Spiritual Gifts?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who use their spiritual gifts for the common good. In Jesus’ name, amen.

God has provided each believer with supernaturally provided spiritual gifts.

Some don’t know they have gifts. Others know they have them, but they don’t use their gifts.

The Apostle Paul writes about spiritual gifts in 1 Corinthians 12:4-7 (ESV):

“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.”

Using your gifts will benefit the body of believers. Need to learn more about spiritual gifts? There are online inventories where anyone can find out about their giftedness.

Servant of Christ?

Servant of Christ?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who are servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Apostle Paul spread the Gospel. He was writing about his and the other apostles’ ministry when he wrote in 1 Corinthians 4:1-2 (NIV):

“This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.”

Taking Paul’s example, it is important to realize that modern believers can humble themselves and become like him. Yes. You can. Be servants of Christ. Stewards of the mysteries of God. And be found faithful.

June 6, 1944 – June 6, 2021: The 77th Anniversary D-Day

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for believers to know the Lord will deliver those who know his name.

Prior to entering World War II and especially after America joined the war effort, many believers stopped and prayed.

Of those who crossed the English Channel on their way to the Normandy Invasion (D-Day: June 6, 1944), Psalm 91:14-16 (ESV) would have been a comfort.

This is the Lord’s promise:

“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.

He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.

With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”

Acknowledge his holy name. Bless all who call on the Lord.

Speak Up Without Fear?

Speak Up Without Fear?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who want to be bold and to speak the word without fear. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Many cower when it comes to speaking in public.

Yet, many have a powerful interpersonal witness.

Whatever the circumstances, God uses his followers. For example, Apostle Paul shared the Gospel even though he was in chains. He became well known, and God used his notoriety to spread the Gospel.

Paul, writing in Philippians 1:12-14 (ESV) tells us, “I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel, so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard and to all the rest that my imprisonment is for Christ. And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.”

You have heard about Paul. Now be emboldened like those brothers who heard about him. Speak the word without fear!

The Cross is the Power of God?

The Cross is the Power of God?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who want to understand the power of the cross. In amen Jesus’ name, amen.

Would you say the cross is the power of God? Not everyone does.

Paul, writing in 1 Corinthians 1:18-19 (ESV), says, “For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, ‘I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.’”

It is odd that a Roman torture devise would be called the power of God. Yet, it is so because those who are being saved recognize the redeeming work of Jesus Christ on the cross.

May God richly bless all who understand the link between the cross and the power of God.
