Avoid Backsliding!

Avoid Backsliding!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who do not want to backslide. In Jesus’s name, amen.

Those who backslide, revert to sin.

In an article on Crosswalk.com, “What it Means to Backslide and How to Recover,” Dr. Roger Barrier defines “‘backsliding’ as an interruption or step backward in our spiritual growth.”

Solomon, in Proverbs 14:14 (ESV), describes both the backslider and a good man.

“The backslider in heart will be filled with the fruit of his ways,
and a good man will be filled with the fruit of his ways.”

What kind of fruit do you produce?

Avoid temptation. If you have backslidden, repent.

James 4:8 (ESV) says,

“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”

If you are a believer, draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.

There Is None Who Does Good!

There Is None Who Does Good!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who acknowledge their sinfulness and rejoice they have a savior. In Jesus’ name, amen.

We cannot change the reality of our inherent sinful nature. We can, however, seek and find Jesus, the savior of the world. Romans 3:23 (ESV) says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Psalm 53:2-3 (ESV) addresses this issue of sin:

“The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, doing abominable iniquity;
there is none who does good.

God looks down from heaven
on the children of man
to see if there are any who understand,
who seek after God.

They have all fallen away;
together they have become corrupt;
there is none who does good,
not even one.”

In desperate need of a savior? If you have been seeking answers to life’s most pressing questions, maybe it is time to open and read the Bible. Don’t wait. Search scripture for answers to life’s most pressing questions.

Are You Imitating Good or Evil?

Are You Imitating Good or Evil?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those believers who know that whoever does good is from God. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Think of some good things people can do: helping others in need; encouraging others; or coming alongside a struggling brother or sister. All these can be acts of kindness and affirmation of others.

The author of 3 John 1:11 (ESV), writing to believers, says,

“Beloved, do not imitate evil but imitate good. Whoever does good is from God; whoever does evil has not seen God.”

How do your actions align with this verse? Do you have the inclination to do the work of the Lord? Do you run from doing evil.

Perhaps it is time to have a “Come to Jesus” moment. Is it time to dedicate or rededicate your life to Jesus?

The Man Who Trusts His Wife!

The Man Who Trusts His Wife!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for the husband who trusts his wife. In Jesus’ name, amen.

It is often said that behind every successful man is a successful woman. The last verses of Proverbs 31 are about a “Proverbs 31 Wife.”

Proverbs 31:11-12 (ESV) is about the good fortune that comes to a man who has an excellent wife.

“The heart of her husband trusts in her,
and he will have no lack of gain.
She does him good, and not harm,
all the days of her life.”

It is amazing to see how well a couple and a family can thrive when there is trust in the relationship.

Establish and live out the trust.

Brothers Dwell in Unity?

Brothers Dwell in Unity?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Many people are suffering from broken relationships. Healing from the damage of a break can be difficult. The opposite is true when everyone cooperates and is getting along. Under these circumstances, things can be amazing.

Psalm 133:1-3 (ESV) describes what it is like in a good relationship.

“Behold, how good and pleasant it is
when brothers dwell in unity!
It is like the precious oil on the head,
running down on the beard,
on the beard of Aaron,
running down on the collar of his robes!
It is like the dew of Hermon,
which falls on the mountains of Zion!
For there the Lord has commanded the blessing,
life forevermore.”

The notes to the English Standard Version of the Bible under Psalm 133:1 refer to the words, good and pleasant. It says, “This should be the goal of church life (John 17:20-23).” Let us try to live up to this goal. Go forth. Dwell in unity.
