Guide Me, Lord, with Your Counsel!

Guide Me, Lord, with Your Counsel!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom, and that you would guide me with your counsel. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Proverbs 11:14 (ESV) offers us wisdom. The proverb tells us:

“‘Where there is no guidance, a people falls,
but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.’”

Bringing in reinforcements when a person needs wise counsel makes sense.

The message of Psalm 73:24-28 (ESV) is God is able to provide counsel.

“You guide me with your counsel,
and afterward you will receive me to glory.
Whom have I in heaven but you?
And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

For behold, those who are far from you shall perish;
you put an end to everyone who is unfaithful to you.
But for me it is good to be near God;
I have made the Lord God my refuge,
that I may tell of all your works.”

Have you made the Lord God your refuge? Draw near to God. Trust him to provide wise counsel.

The Earth Be Filled with God’s Glory!

The Earth Be Filled with God’s Glory!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who pray like David, the psalmist: “May the whole earth be filled with your glory!” In Jesus’ name, amen.

Psalm 72 is David’s prayer to God.

He concludes his prayer in the last verses of Psalm 72:17-20 (ESV).

“May his name endure forever,
his fame continue as long as the sun!
May people be blessed in him,
all nations call him blessed!

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
who alone does wondrous things.
Blessed be his glorious name forever;
may the whole earth be filled with his glory!
Amen and Amen!

The prayers of David, the son of Jesse, are ended.”

Can this last part of David’s prayer be an example for us today? David humbles himself. His prayer points others to God. God is the focus. Praise him. Now.

Sins Forgiven Just Like That!

Sins Forgiven Just Like That!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who confess their sins knowing God is faithful to forgive sins and cleanse from all unrighteousness. In Jesus’ name, amen.

It has been said, “Confession is good for the soul.”

Romans 3:23 (ESV) says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

The response in 1 John 1:9 (ESV) gives hope to the hopeless:

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Sins forgiven? Amazing! Heartfelt confession is a small price to pay for having sins wiped clean.

Confess now. Be set free!

A Steadfast Heart?

A Steadfast Heart?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those whose heart is steadfast. In Jesus’ name, amen.

David’s psalm is very much like a prayer.

His words are filled with emotion as he says he will sing, make melody, add musical instruments, and praise God among the nations.

Psalm 108:1-6 involves vivid description that takes us into God’s presence.

“My heart is steadfast, O God!
I will sing and make melody with all my being!
Awake, O harp and lyre!
I will awake the dawn!
I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing praises to you among the nations.
For your steadfast love is great above the heavens;
your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.

Be exalted, O God, above the heavens!
Let your glory be over all the earth!
That your beloved ones may be delivered,
give salvation by your right hand and answer me!”

David’s heart is unwavering. How is your heart? Is there a song of praise or thanksgiving that comes to mind?

Exalt God. Consider the first words of “Come Let Us Worship and Bow Down.”

“Come, let us worship and bow down And kneel before the Lord, our Maker”

Give God all the glory.

Ascribe to the Lord?

Ascribe to the Lord?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who ascribe to you glory and strength. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Want to stand in awe before the Lord? Consider all that can be ascribed to him including creation, his mighty deeds, and the gift of his son, Jesus.

Psalm 96:6-10 (ESV) starts with the word “splendor,” Synonyms for the word range from magnificence, to grandeur, and to glory.

“Splendor and majesty are before him [the Lord];
strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.

Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the peoples,
ascribe to the Lord glory and strength!
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
bring an offering, and come into his courts!
Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness;
tremble before him, all the earth!

Say among the nations, ‘The Lord reigns!
Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved;
he will judge the peoples with equity.’”

In light of this section of Scripture, it is right to be humble before God. Yet, it is also important to acknowledge God’s sovereignty. It says, “’The Lord reigns.’”

Glory Among the Nations?

Glory Among the Nations?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for all those who declare your glory among the nations. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Today, people from around the world can find themselves in close proximity to those who have never ventured far from home. The world has come to our doorsteps. A number of factors account for this, including immigration. Because people from different nations and diverse cultures now live nearby, it is possible to declare his glory among the nations without traveling far and wide.

Psalm 96:1-5 (ESV) is about singing a new song to the lord and declaring his glory.

“Oh sing to the Lord a new song;
sing to the Lord, all the earth!
Sing to the Lord, bless his name;
tell of his salvation from day to day.
Declare his glory among the nations,
his marvelous works among all the peoples!
For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;
he is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols,
but the Lord made the heavens.”

Be bold in declaring God’s glory. Think of the marvelous works he has done. Praise him. Do not worship counterfeits. False gods did not make the heavens.
