Give Freely!

Give Freely!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who give freely. In Jesus’s name, amen.

1 Corinthians 9:7 (ESV) says,

“Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

Proverbs 11:24 (ESV) is also about giving.

“One gives freely, yet grows all the richer;
another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.”

Do you give generously? Are you stingy? God’s word defines the person who gives and the one who withholds. Be open to giving above and beyond what you are used to. Make sure to do so without reservation. God will know your heart.

Sing Praises!

Sing Praises!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who sing praise to your name, O Most High. In Jesus’ name, amen.

I know people who sing in the choir. I also know those who prefer just singing along with the choir while standing or seated with the rest of the congregation. And I also know people who sing only when they are alone. Whether a song leader, or one who is tone deaf, God hears all of our voices.

Psalm 92:1-5 (ESV) is about singing praises along with musical instruments.

“It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to sing praises to your name, O Most High;
to declare your steadfast love in the morning,
and your faithfulness by night,
to the music of the lute and the harp,
to the melody of the lyre.
For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your work;
at the works of your hands I sing for joy.

How great are your works, O Lord!
Your thoughts are very deep! ”

Is your heart filled with praise? Stop now and think of a favorite God-honoring song. Hum or sing the song to the Lord. Give thanks.

Steadfast Love?

Steadfast Love?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who give thanks because your steadfast love endures forever. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Forever is a long, long time. It goes on and on.

God’s steadfast endures forever.

This is humbling to know. Psalm 136:1-3 (ESV) is about giving thanks because of God’s unwavering, unfaltering love.

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods,
for his steadfast love endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords,
for his steadfast love endures forever;”

The words, “for his steadfast love endures forever” repeat. Think about what the words mean. Give thanks for God’s steadfast love?

Thank God?

Thank God?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who give thanks. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Worship and thanksgiving go together in Psalm 118:28-29 (ESV). In the concluding words of this Psalm, the congregation extols (i.e. praises and exhausts) the Lord.

“You are my God, and I will give thanks to you;
you are my God; I will extol you.
Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
for his steadfast love endures forever!”

The Lord provides. He saves. He lifts up those who are downtrodden. For all the Lord has done in your life, give thanks, for he is good. Do not loose heart when trials come.

Give Great Thanks?

Give Great Thanks?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who give great thanks to the Lord. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The early part of Psalm 109 says a lot about what the psalmist wishes would happen to his enemies. He does not hope the best for them.

By Psalm 109:30-31 (ESV), however, the psalmist is thankful.

“With my mouth I will give great thanks to the Lord;
I will praise him in the midst of the throng.
For he stands at the right hand of the needy one,
to save him from those who condemn his soul to death.”

Have you ever wanted to retaliate against those who oppose or oppress? Try a different approach. Spend time thanking God for his provision. Also, praise the Lord publicly.
