Shield and Refuge!

Shield and Refuge!

Dear Lord, I pray for those to know you are a shield and a refuge. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Psalm 91:2 (ESV) says,

“I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress:
my God; in him will I trust.”

Proverbs 30:5-6 (ESV) compliments the sentiment, and it is about the truth of God’s word and how he is a refuge.

“Every word of God proves true;
he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
Do not add to his words,
lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar.”

The Bible is God’s holy and inspired word.

Scripture gives fair warning. Beware of adding to God’s word.

Rock, Stronghold, Deliverer?

Rock, Stronghold, Deliverer?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know you are their rock, their stronghold, and deliverer.

Ephesians 3:20-21 (ESV) says,

“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”

In Psalm 144:1-2 (ESV) we hear David testify about God.

“Blessed be the Lord, my rock,
who trains my hands for war,
and my fingers for battle;
he is my steadfast love and my fortress,
my stronghold and my deliverer,
my shield and he in whom I take refuge,
who subdues peoples under me.”

These two verses have insights about the God of the Universe. Have you taken time to trust the one God who provides abundantly, and who David calls, My rock?

The Day of Distress?

The Day of Distress?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know you are a refuge in the day of distress. In Jesus’ amen.

Are you in distress and experiencing any of the following? Sorrow? Suffering? Anguish? Grief? Misery? Pain?

David, the psalmist, had men who wanted him dead. The two verses of Psalm 59:16-17 (ESV) show his confidence in God.

“But I will sing of your strength;
I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning.
For you have been to me a fortress
and a refuge in the day of my distress.
O my Strength, I will sing praises to you,
for you, O God, are my fortress,
the God who shows me steadfast love.”

Do you have the same response to crises? Ask God for help. God will walk with you through even the most difficult situations.

God Known as a Fortress?

God Known as a Fortress?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who praise God he has made himself known as a fortress.

When we think of fortifications, we think of a place where people are protected. A fort is defensible against all who attack or lay siege. It is a place of safety. People inside are secure.

Psalm 48:1-3 says that God is to be praised – God has made himself known as a fortress.

“Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised
in the city of our God!
His holy mountain, beautiful in elevation,
is the joy of all the earth,
Mount Zion, in the far north,
the city of the great King.
Within her citadels God
has made himself known as a fortress.”

Are you in need of a fortress? Seek him if you do not yet know him. Run to God for refuge. Pray. Now.

The Lord of Hosts is With Us?

The Lord of Hosts is With Us?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know the Lord of ost is with us. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Ever watch the news and wonder about how nations make choices? There is a phrase that describes such behavior: Countries act in their own national self-interest? Is there any wonder nations’ parallel human behavior? Even though nations rage and kingdoms totter, God is in control. God is with us.

Psalm 46:4-7 (ESV):

“There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy habitation of the Most High.
God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved;
God will help her when morning dawns.
The nations rage, the kingdoms totter;
he utters his voice, the earth melts.
The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

Are you acting in your own interest? Do you think about God being with you?

The impact of this can be life changing for nations and individuals.

When Ancient Israel was following God, the nation thrived. Conversely, when the people abandoned God, calamity followed. The same is true personally. God is with you as you go about your day. Watch how being aware God is with you changes how you conduct yourself and interact with others.

Is He Your Rock, Fortress, and Deliverer?

Is He Your Rock, Fortress, and Deliverer?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who trust God to be their rock, fortress, and deliverer. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The God of the Old Testament delivered his people from Egypt. God then led his people into the Promised Land. When King David’s God, the same God, saved him from Saul’s wrath, he wrote Psalm 18:1-3:

“I love you, O Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised,
and I am saved from my enemies.”

God had power far beyond what we could ask for or expect. Let us take time to praise his name for saving us from our real and imagined enemies. Please give praise. Now.
