Pharaoh Defeated?

Pharaoh Defeated?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know Almighty God defeated Pharaoh. In Jesus name, amen.

During the time of the exodus from Egypt, God did many miracles. God ultimately set the people of Israel free and defeated Pharaoh.

Exodus 15:19 (ESV) tells what happened to who was the most powerful man in Egypt.

“For when the horses of Pharaoh with his chariots and his horsemen went into the sea, the Lord brought back the waters of the sea upon them, but the people of Israel walked on dry ground in the midst of the sea.”

To commemorate God’s victory over Egypt, Psalm 136:10-16 (ESV) recounts the events and miracles.

The psalmist praises God, for his (God’s) steadfast love endures forever.

“To him who struck down the firstborn of Egypt,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
and brought Israel out from among them,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
with a strong hand and an outstretched arm,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
to him who divided the Red Sea in two,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
and made Israel pass through the midst of it,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
but overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red Sea,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
to him who led his people through the wilderness,
for his steadfast love endures forever.”

Pharaoh was swallowed up by the Red Sea, and then Moses led the people of Israel to the Promised Land. Ponder God’s deliverance. Praise him.

Signs and Wonders at the First Passover?

Signs and Wonders at the First Passover?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who acknowledge the books of Exodus and Joshua are true. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Around the world, people are about to celebrate Passover. This is a time for remembering how God delivered Israel from the hands of the Egyptians.

In Psalm 135:8-12 (ESV) we are reminded of the signs and wonders God did in Egypt.

“He (God) it was who struck down the firstborn of Egypt,
both of man and of beast;
who in your midst, O Egypt,
sent signs and wonders
against Pharaoh and all his servants;
who struck down many nations
and killed mighty kings,
Sihon, king of the Amorites,
and Og, king of Bashan,
and all the kingdoms of Canaan,
and gave their land as a heritage,
a heritage to his people Israel.”

God brought the people out of Egypt and eventually into the Promised Land. Celebrate God’s power and glory both then and now. Give thanks.

Plunder the Egyptians?

Plunder the Egyptians?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who recall how you allowed the descendants of Abraham to plunder Egypt. In Jesus’ name, amen.

In Exodus 3:21-22 (ESV), God shares his plan with Moses about transferring wealth from the Egyptians to the descendants of Abraham.

“And I will give this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians; and when you go, you shall not go empty, but each woman shall ask of her neighbor, and any woman who lives in her house, for silver and gold jewelry, and for clothing. You shall put them on your sons and on your daughters. So you shall plunder the Egyptians.”

In Exodus 11:2 (ESV) the plundering is about to happen.

“‘Speak now in the hearing of the people, that they ask, every man of his neighbor and every woman of her neighbor, for silver and gold jewelry.’”

In Psalm 105:37-38 (ESV) the psalmist memorializes the event.

“Then he brought out Israel with silver and gold,
and there was none among his tribes who stumbled.
Egypt was glad when they departed,
for dread of them had fallen upon it.”

God tells Moses what will happen. Scripture records what happened. Then the psalmist reports what happened. God is faithful. God’s word is faithful. Whatever your situation, trust God to make a way.
