Do You Hear God’s Call?

Do You Hear God’s Call?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who are called by God. In Jesus’ name, amen.

I occasionally listen to The Christy Wright Show podcasts. She is affiliated with Dave Ramsey, a radio personality known for his book The Total Money Makeover. Although she appears to have a primarily female audience, I like Christy Wright because she often interviews well-known personalities.

Although it has been over a year ago, I still remember Christy sharing ideas about the two types of calling: She said there are those who are called to work in a particular profession. Then there are those who are called by God to live through a particular season of life. Although both can be God’s call, the latter can take on great significance for believers.

For example, Apostle Paul writing in Ephesians 4:1-3 (ESV) says,

“I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”

These verses provide guidance for walking through both work and the joyous and difficult seasons of life. To be humble, gentle, patient, loving, and have a spirit of unity in the bond of peace can immediately change one’s perspective. Instead of living a life of drudgery at some job or just getting by during a difficult season of life, God can walk alongside of you on your journey.

Consider taking on the attributes listed in Ephesians 4, so you can best be used by God.

Christy was recently sharing ideas about the two types of calling: She said there are those who are called to work in a particular profession. Then there are those who are called by God to live through a particular season of life. Although both can be God’s call, the latter can take on great significance for believers.

These verses provide guidance for walking through work and also the various seasons of life. To be humble, gentle, patient, loving, and having a spirit of unity in the bond of peace can immediately change one’s perspective. Instead of living a life of drudgery at work or just getting by during a difficult season of life, God can walk along side of you on your journey.

Answered Prayer Atop the Tree Stump

Answered Prayer Atop the Tree Stump

My wife and I were in our Barstow, California, home the end of May 2017.

The house was in escrow, and most of the household goods had been given away, donated, or readied for loading onto a U-Haul truck.

Late one afternoon, after a day of packing, I left my wife inside reading on the couch. I went into the backyard and climbed onto the stump of what was once a massive pine tree. That is when I began praying with my palms up. I looked out over the house we had owned over a decade. “Lord, this has been your house. Thank you for letting Diane and me use it for a time.”

My mind filled with fond memories. Leaving friends and neighbors was going to be bittersweet…

I asked the Lord for direction. “I am open to what you have for me. What do you want me to do with the rest of my life?”

I heard the Lord’s voice. “Write for me.”

We had a casual conversation, and I agreed to write for him.

By January 2018, I had started writing and began participating in different read-and-critique groups. A few months later, I joined the Diamond Valley Writers’ Guild. Later, I was invited to serve on the board of directors. I read books on the craft of writing, subscribed to Writer’s Digest, and joined Jerry Jenkins Writers Guild. My poems and personal essays started to get published.

I see this website as the next phase in writing for the Lord. For example, every day I am challenging people to pray for Wisdom. Won’t you join me?
