Who Me? Give Thanks?

Who Me? Give Thanks?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who give thanks. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Don Moen wrote the praise song, “Give Thanks.” The refrain is as follows:

“Give thanks with a grateful heart
Give thanks to the Holy One
Give thanks because He’s given
Jesus Christ, His Son”

Psalm 106:1-3 (ESV) begins with a statement of praise.

“Praise the Lord!
Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever!
Who can utter the mighty deeds of the Lord,
or declare all his praise?
Blessed are they who observe justice,
who do righteousness at all times!”

Are you in the mood to praise and/or give thanks to God? If not, take time to reflect on all God has done. Realize if he has been faithful before, he is trustworthy to be faithful today, tomorrow, and always.

Seek the Lord’s Presence Continually?

Seek the Lord’s Presence Continually?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who seek your presence continually. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The word “continually” in part means repeatedly, constantly, repetitively, and persistently. Do these terms describe how you seek God’s presence in your life?

Psalm 105:1-4 (ESV) encourages the faithful to give thanks and seek the Lord.

“Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name;
make known his deeds among the peoples!
Sing to him, sing praises to him;
tell of all his wondrous works!
Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!
Seek the Lord and his strength;
seek his presence continually!”

Are you making it a habit to be thankful, sing to the Lord, tell of his wondrous works, rejoice, and seek the Lord? If you do, you are to be commended. If not, renew your commitment to seeking the Lord. It is time to start: now.

Will You Sing to the Lord As Long As You Live?

Will You Sing to the Lord As Long As You Live?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who will sing to you as long as they live. In Jesus’ name, amen.

John Newton’s “Amazing Grace” refers to a heavenly choir.

“When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’d first begun.”

In Psalm 104:31-35 (ESV) God look causes the earth to tremble, and his touching mountains causes them to smoke. In verse 33, the psalmists and “Amazing Grace” have some ideas in common.

“May the glory of the Lord endure forever;
may the Lord rejoice in his works,
who looks on the earth and it trembles,
who touches the mountains and they smoke!
I will sing to the Lord as long as I live;
I will sing praise to my God while I have being.
May my meditation be pleasing to him,
for I rejoice in the Lord.
Let sinners be consumed from the earth,
and let the wicked be no more!
Bless the Lord, O my soul!
Praise the Lord!”

Choose to live a godly life. Allow yourself to freely worship God. Sing now and forever more.

Established the Lord’s Throne?

Established the Lord’s Throne?

Who or what can bless the Lord? The answer is his whole creation.

Psalm 103:19-22 (ESV) is specific about the Lord being blessed.

“The Lord has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all.

Bless the Lord, O you his angels,
you mighty ones who do his word,
obeying the voice of his word!
Bless the Lord, all his hosts,
his ministers, who do his will!
Bless the Lord, all his works,
in all places of his dominion.
Bless the Lord, O my soul.”

If the angels, the mighty ones, those who obey the voice of his word, the host, the ministers, who do his will, and all his works bless him, are you ready to join them? Go ahead and say, “Bless the Lord, O my soul.”

Slow to Anger?

Slow to Anger?

Dear Lord, I pray for those know the Lord is slow to anger, merciful, and gracious. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Ever give thought to how slow God is to anger? God could react swiftly to sinful behavior without giving a chance for sinners to repent and turn away from their sin.

Psalm 103:6-10 (ESV) portrays God’s justice, mercy, and grace. The verses also show him as slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

“The Lord works righteousness
and justice for all who are oppressed.
He made known his ways to Moses,
his acts to the people of Israel.
The Lord is merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
He will not always chide,
nor will he keep his anger forever.
He does not deal with us according to our sins,
nor repay us according to our iniquities.”

Are you harboring some secret sin? Reading these verses, are you inclined to change some aspect of your life? Then take action. Do not delay.

Keep The Lord’s Covenant and Commandments?

Keep The Lord’s Covenant and Commandments?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who keep your covenant and remember to keep your commandments. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Every day we are alive is a miracle. In light of eternity, consider your lifespan.

Psalm 103:15-18 (ESV) helps us put our life in perspective to God’s eternal nature and how much he loves us.

“As for man, his days are like grass;
he flourishes like a flower of the field;
for the wind passes over it, and it is gone,
and its place knows it no more.
But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting
to everlasting on those who fear him,
and his righteousness to children’s children,
to those who keep his covenant
and remember to do his commandments.”

Some people might take following God’s commandment so literally it becomes legalistic. Rather, devote yourself to thankfully being obedient to God’s law because of all he has done for you.
