A Soft Word Turns Away Wrath!

A Soft Word Turns Away Wrath!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know a soft word turns away wrath. In Jesus’ name, amen.

I was just watching TBN. Mike Rowe was the subject to the show because he has a podcast The Way I Heard It. The episode was about Bob Ross. TBN had turned the podcast into a video. Few people know that Bob Ross had been a drill sergeant before he became famous for teaching painting on PBS. After years of yelling at troops, he became well-known for his soft-spoken manner.

Proverbs 15:1 (ESV) was quoted during the broadcast.

“A soft answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

What is your preference? A soft answer? Harsh words? Choose wisely.

If you have been known for harsh words, change and become known for your soft answers.

Mere Talk Tends Only to Poverty!

Mere Talk Tends Only to Poverty!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who toil. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Have you ever heard the phrase, “Talk is cheap.”

One friend put it this way, “Big hat. No cattle.”

There are those who are all talk and no action.

Proverbs 14:23 (ESV) is about those who do the work and those who only talk.

“In all toil there is profit,
but mere talk tends only to poverty.”

Don’t look back on life and realize there were missed opportunities to work hard and profit. Many talk without ever applying themselves.

Make sure to take action. Do the work.

Avoid Backsliding!

Avoid Backsliding!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who do not want to backslide. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Those who backslide revert to sin.

In an article on Crosswalk.com, “What it Means to Backslide and How to Recover,” Dr. Roger Barrier defines “‘backsliding’ as an interruption or step backward in our spiritual growth.”

Solomon, in Proverbs 14:14 (ESV), uses parallel language when describing the backslider and the good man.

“The backslider in heart will be filled with the fruit of his ways,
and a good man will be filled with the fruit of his ways.”

Avoid temptation.

Which kind of fruit do you want?

If you have backslidden, repent.

James 4:8 (ESV) says,

“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands,
you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”

If you are a believer, draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.

Inheritance to Your Children’s Children!

Inheritance to Your Children’s Children!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who leave an inheritance to their children’s children. In Jesus’ name, amen.

An inheritance can be financial. It can also be about leaving a legacy faith.

Proverbs 13:22 (ESV) is about leaving a financial legacy.

“A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children,
but the sinner’s wealth is laid up for the righteous.”

Notice what happens to the sinner’s wealth. If it goes to the righteous.

Then the righteous can leave an inheritance to their children’s children.

The Soul of the Diligent is Richly Supplied!

The Soul of the Diligent is Richly Supplied!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for the soul of the diligent, In Jesus’ name, amen.

According to dictionary.com, the definition of a sluggard is “a person who is habitually inactive or lazy.”

Proverbs 13:4 (ESV) distinguishes between the sluggard and some others.

“The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing,
while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.”

Have you taken on some of the characteristics of a sluggard? Do you know of another person who is a sluggard?

God can change a person’s heart.

Pray. Ask God to provide guidance to the sluggards in your life.

Desire Fulfilled!

Desire Fulfilled!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those whose desires are fulfilled. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Some people are said to be “heart sick.”

The burdens of a sad person can be overwhelming.

Proverbs 13:12 provides contrast to those who have hope deferred and those who see their desires fulfilled.

“Hope deferred makes the heart sick,
but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.”

What a stark contract. One person has their hope deferred for who knows how long, and the other has their desires fulfilled.

Is there any action you can take that would allow you to see your desires fulfilled? If there are steps you can take, take them.
