Don’t Breathe Out Lies!

Don’t Breathe Out Lies!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who do not breathe out lies. In Jesus’ name, amen.

A person who testifies in a court of law is obligated to tell the truth. Knowingly lying under oath is a very serious offense called “perjury.”

Proverbs 19:9 (ESV) is about a false witness.

“A false witness will not go unpunished,
and he who breathes out lies will perish.”

For those caught in the act of giving false testimony, there can be stiff penalties. In God’s economy the one who breathes out lies will perish.

Yet, God provides a way when there seems no way.

Change evil ways. Repent of lying. Make amends.

The Friend Who Sticks Close!

The Friend Who Sticks Close!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who have a friend who sticks close. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Some people are fair weather friends. These companions will be around when times are good, but will abandon when times turn bad or hard. Hopefully, you have friends that will go above and beyond and will be committed when difficulties arise.

Proverbs 18:24 (ESV) is about what can happened with a band of companions versus what can happen when a true friend will stand by.

“A man of many companions may come to ruin,
but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”

Are you the kind of friend who sticks close?

Hopefully, you will avoid ruin, and have at least one good friend who will stick close.

Acquire and Seek Knowledge!

Acquire and Seek Knowledge!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those with an intelligent heart who acquire knowledge. In Jesus’ name, amen.

There are some people who think only of logic, and focus on so-called head knowledge. Then, there are others who consider situations move from their heart. Which are you?

Do you tend to jump to conclusions, or do you listen to all sides before making a decision?

Proverbs 18:15 (ESV) is about an intelligent heart and the ear of the wise.

“An intelligent heart acquires knowledge,
and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.”

In both cases, the aim is the acquisition of knowledge. Knowledge, not as the world gives, but as God gives.

A Rich Mans’ Wealth Is His Strong City!

A Rich Mans’ Wealth Is His Strong City!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom about how to view wealth. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Television news constantly reports on the economic issues of the day: inflation, gas prices, housing costs, and the threat of recession. Markets are constantly fluctuating. World events impact world markets. Fortunes come and fortunes go.

For those with wealth, their money can be like Solomon says in Proverbs 18:11 (ESV).

“A rich man’s wealth is his strong city,
and like a high wall in his imagination.”

Do you have a high wall of protection based on some tangible resource? Has your imagined wall of protection allowed you to be less than ready if a financial crisis were to bring about financial ruin? My advice: Be prepared if the high wall in your imagination is not high enough.

Strong Tower!

Strong Tower!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know your name is a strong tower. In Jesus’ name, amen.

God offers refuge in times of trouble. When believers need refuge, they can pray, read scripture, and praise God.

In Proverbs 18:10 (ESV) it is the name of the Lord that is a safe place.

“The name of the Lord is a strong tower;
the righteous man runs into it and is safe.”

Non-believers do not have a place to run. People of faith, in contrast, can find safety in the strong tower of the name of the Lord.

A Joyful Heart is Good Medicine!

A Joyful Heart is Good Medicine!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know a joyful heart is good medicine. In Jesus’ name, amen.

A person with a joyful heart can fill a room with joy. Such a person is not only good medicine for themselves, he or she is good medicine for those around them.

Proverbs 17:22 (ESV) contrasts a joyful heart with a crushed spirit.

“A joyful heart is good medicine,
but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”

I pray for wisdom for those who have a crushed spirit. Devastating situations can happen to anyone. At such times, turn to God. When everything seems to be falling apart, seek first the kingdom of God.

Trust God, now and always.
