Guide Me, Lord, with Your Counsel!

Guide Me, Lord, with Your Counsel!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom, and that you would guide me with your counsel. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Proverbs 11:14 (ESV) offers us wisdom. The proverb tells us:

“‘Where there is no guidance, a people falls,
but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.’”

Bringing in reinforcements when a person needs wise counsel makes sense.

The message of Psalm 73:24-28 (ESV) is God is able to provide counsel.

“You guide me with your counsel,
and afterward you will receive me to glory.
Whom have I in heaven but you?
And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

For behold, those who are far from you shall perish;
you put an end to everyone who is unfaithful to you.
But for me it is good to be near God;
I have made the Lord God my refuge,
that I may tell of all your works.”

Have you made the Lord God your refuge? Draw near to God. Trust him to provide wise counsel.

The Earth Be Filled with God’s Glory!

The Earth Be Filled with God’s Glory!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who pray like David, the psalmist: “May the whole earth be filled with your glory!” In Jesus’ name, amen.

Psalm 72 is David’s prayer to God.

He concludes his prayer in the last verses of Psalm 72:17-20 (ESV).

“May his name endure forever,
his fame continue as long as the sun!
May people be blessed in him,
all nations call him blessed!

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
who alone does wondrous things.
Blessed be his glorious name forever;
may the whole earth be filled with his glory!
Amen and Amen!

The prayers of David, the son of Jesse, are ended.”

Can this last part of David’s prayer be an example for us today? David humbles himself. His prayer points others to God. God is the focus. Praise him. Now.

Save All the Humble!

Save All the Humble!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who realize you establish judgment to save all the humble of the earth. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The people of Israel angered God by worshiping false gods, breaking his commandments, and more.

The notes to the English Standard Version of the Bible concerning the phrase “to save all the humble of the earth” refers to saving “the faithful among his people.”

In Psalm 76:7-9, the psalmist expresses a healthy respect for God’s anger and subsequent judgment.

“But you, you are to be feared!
Who can stand before you
when once your anger is roused?
From the heavens you uttered judgment;
the earth feared and was still,
when God arose to establish judgment,
to save all the humble of the earth. Selah

God has the authority to judge. Do you need to repent and turn away from the sin in your life? Pray.

In John 8:11 (ESV), Jesus told a woman caught in the act of adultery to “go, and from now on sin no more.” Go. And do likewise.

God Will Sustain!

God Will Sustain!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know God sustains them. In Jesus’ name, amen.

In Mathew 11:28 (ESV) Jesus says, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

David, the psalmist, expresses similar sentiment in Psalm 55:22-23 (ESV).

“Cast your burden on the Lord,
and he will sustain you;
he will never permit
the righteous to be moved.

But you, O God, will cast them down
into the pit of destruction;
men of blood and treachery
shall not live out half their days.
But I will trust in you.”

Are you oppressed by the wicked? Is your heart in anguish? God will sustain.

Is Your Heart in Anguish?

Is Your Heart in Anguish?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those whose hearts are in anguish. In Jesus’ name, amen.

“Ever have the urge to just fly away? David, the psalmist, did. His heart was in anguish. He was trembling. He was overwhelmed with horror.

In Psalm 55:4-8 (ESV) David says what he would do if he had wings.

“My heart is in anguish within me;
the terrors of death have fallen upon me.
Fear and trembling come upon me,
and horror overwhelms me.
And I say, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove!
I would fly away and be at rest;
yes, I would wander far away;
I would lodge in the wilderness; Selah
I would hurry to find a shelter
from the raging wind and tempest.”

Want to escape? Unable to fly away? Trust God. He will provide.

Overcoming the Oppression of the Wicked!

Overcoming the Oppression of the Wicked!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who feel the oppression of the wicked. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The psalms characterize the reality of David’s world. Wicked people pursued him seeking his destruction. David looked to God for mercy.

Psalm 55:1-3 (ESV) gives us a glimpse of how oppressed David felt.

“Give ear to my prayer, O God,
and hide not yourself from my plea for mercy!
Attend to me, and answer me;
I am restless in my complaint and I moan,
because of the noise of the enemy,
because of the oppression of the wicked.
For they drop trouble upon me,
and in anger they bear a grudge against me.”

David never doubted God could answer his plea for mercy even when the circumstances looked bleak. He never lost sight of God’s ability to rescue him. Feeling oppressed? Seek God for his mercy. Hold fast to hope in the face of adversity.
