Sing Songs of Salvation!

Sing Songs of Salvation!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who sing glad songs of salvation. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Sing of redemption and deliverance. God can do amazing things.

The word “valiantly” in the following verse has many meanings: bravely, courageously, fearlessly, and nobly.

Psalm 118:14-16 (ESV) is about song, salvation, and the right hand of the Lord.

“The Lord is my strength and my song;
he has become my salvation.
Glad songs of salvation
are in the tents of the righteous:
‘The right hand of the Lord does valiantly,
the right hand of the Lord exalts,
the right hand of the Lord does valiantly!’”

When a crisis comes, rely on your musical memory, or pull out a hymnal. Praise God! Sing glad songs.

What Can Man Do To Me?

What Can Man Do To Me?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who say, “I will not fear. What can man do to me?” In Jesus’ name, amen.

Fear can paralyze a person to inaction. Fear can also keep a person awake at night. Anyone can go through a season of panic and anxiety.

The cure for such things is God’s word where it says, “The Lord is on my side.”

Psalm 118:5-9 (ESV) explains that God can answer us personally and set us free.

“Out of my distress I called on the Lord;
the Lord answered me and set me free.
The Lord is on my side; I will not fear.
What can man do to me?
The Lord is on my side as my helper;
I shall look in triumph on those who hate me.

It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in man.
It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in princes.”

Where is it you go when you need to take refuge from panic and anxiety? Where do you run when afraid?

2 Timothy 1:7 (ESV) tells us,

“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”

Think about what it means to turn to the Lord and take refuge in him. When in distress, know God is on your side.

Palm Sunday: He Comes in the Name of the Lord!

Palm Sunday: He Comes in the Name of the Lord!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who say, “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.” In Jesus’ name, amen.

Psalm 118:26 (ESV) says,

“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
We bless you from the house of the Lord.”

The words in the first part of the verse appear several times in the New Testament. Palm Sunday the phrase was used together with shouts of “Hosanna.” (See Matthew 21:9 and Mark 11:9).

Luke 19:38 (ESV) says,

“Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

John 12:13 and Luke 13:35 also use Psalm 118:26.

Imagine being on the road into Jerusalem when Jesus is welcomed by the crowds shouting the words of Psalm 118:26. Join with them now, and say, “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”

The Steadfast is God’s Love!

The Steadfast is God’s Love!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who say your steadfast love endures forever. In Jesus’ name, amen.

A synonyms for the word “forever’ are endless and always. Imagine that.

In Psalm 118:1-4 (ESV) we learn God’s unwavering and persistent love does not just linger for a time and disappear. Rather, it is endless and always. It endures forever.

“Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
for his steadfast love endures forever!

Let Israel say,
‘His unwavering love endures forever.’
Let the house of Aaron say,
‘His steadfast love endures forever.’
Let those who fear the Lord say,
‘His steadfast love endures forever.’”

Are you willing to tell others God’s steadfast love endures forever?

Pray and start sharing the news that his steadfast love endures for today and always.

Me? A Servant!

Me? A Servant!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who declare, “I am your servant.” In Jesus’ name, amen.

Jesus, when he was at the Last Supper, washed the disciples’ feet. He took on the role of a servant.

Psalm 116:16-19 (ESV) offers an example of a person who is so grateful to God for all he has done to loose his bonds, he becomes subservient.

“O Lord, I am your servant;
I am your servant, the son of your maidservant.
You have loosed my bonds.
I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving
and call on the name of the Lord.
I will pay my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people,
in the courts of the house of the Lord,
in your midst, O Jerusalem.
Praise the Lord!”

Do you serve others? Are you willing to become subservient to God? Think of your daily activity as service, doing everything as unto God.
