A Lamp Unto My Feet!

A Lamp Unto My Feet!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who declare your world is a lamp unto their feet. In Jesus’ name, amen.

“Thy Word” by Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith is based on Psalm 119:105. The song begins,

“Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path

When I feel afraid
Think I’ve lost my way
Still you’re there right beside me
And nothing will I fear
As long as you are near
Please be near me to the end”

Psalm 119:105-106 (ESV) is a reminder to hold steadfast to God’s word, for in Scripture he shows us the way.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet
and a light to my path.
I have sworn an oath and confirmed it,
to keep your righteous rules.”

Do you ever feel like you need guidance? Are you in the throes of making a big decision? Don’t underestimate the power of God’s word to light the way. Ask God to direct you and light your path.

Understand More!

Understand More!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who love your law and meditate on it all day. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Who was your favorite teacher? Most people can think of at least one teacher who influenced them greatly. Imagine reaching a point where you have greater understanding than your teachers. Although it might seem impossible, the psalmist in Psalm 119: 97-100 (ESV) declares it to be true.

“Oh how I love your law!
It is my meditation all the day.
Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies,
for it is ever with me.
I have more understanding than all my teachers,
for your testimonies are my meditation.
I understand more than the aged,
for I keep your precepts.”

Imagine meditating on Scripture all day, every day. The Bible says, you will be wiser than your enemies, more understanding then all your teachers, and understand more than those who are aged. Studying Scripture and obeying God are worthy endeavors. Start. Continue. Praise God.

Your Word Is Firmly Fixed!

Your Word Is Firmly Fixed!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know your word is firmly fixed in the heavens. In Jesus name, amen.

God’s word and the heavens are intertwined in Scripture. For example, Luke 16:17 (ESV) says,

“But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one dot of the Law to become void.”

Psalm 119:89 (ESV) tells us,

“Forever, O Lord, your word
is firmly fixed in the heavens.
Your faithfulness endures to all generations;
you have established the earth, and it stands fast.”

Take a look at a sunrise, a sunset, or a night sky. Prayer is simply talking to God, so pray.

Ask him to reveal himself. Expect his reply.

Are You Persecuted?

Are You Persecuted?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who in the face of persecution persist in their faith. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Ever felt like someone is out to get you, and that that someone is almost about to succeed?

In Ancient Israel we learn of a similar situation in Psalm 119:86-87 (ESV) where the persecutors are about to prevail.

“All your commandments are sure;
they persecute me with falsehood; help me!
They have almost made an end of me on earth,
but I have not forsaken your precepts.”

Even in the face of the adversity, the psalmist maintains firm reliance on God’s commandments and precepts.

Do the attacks seem relentless?

Even in the face of adversity, stay focused on God’s word.

God Created You and Me!

God Created You and Me!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know your hands have made and fashioned me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

One of the great demarcations in modern society can be found in the first words of the Bible, Genesis 1:1 (ESV).

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”

This verse separates those who acknowledge God’s role in creation and those who do not.

Psalm 139:13 (ESV) says,

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.”

Psalm 119:73 (ESV) also starts off recognizing God is a personal creator.

“Your hands have made and fashioned me;
give me understanding that I may learn your commandments.”

Where are you with your thoughts about God creating heaven and earth? Do you accept God personally knit you together in your mother’s womb, and that his hands made and fashioned you? If so, rejoice. If not, ask God to show you He is real.

Thousands of Gold and Silver Pieces!

Thousands of Gold and Silver Pieces!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know the law of your mouth is better than thousands of gold and silver pieces. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Many have gone astray and been far from God. Now, some of the worst offenders keep God’s commandments. How can it be that God would be so gracious as to accept someone back into the fold who has been unfaithful? God forgives mistakes for those who are truly sorry for their transgressions.

Psalm 119:65-72 (ESV) tells us the psalmist’s story.

“You have dealt well with your servant,
O Lord, according to your word.
Teach me good judgment and knowledge,
for I believe in your commandments.
67 Before I was afflicted I went astray,
but now I keep your word.
68 You are good and do good;
teach me your statutes.
69 The insolent smear me with lies,
but with my whole heart I keep your precepts;
70 their heart is unfeeling like fat,
but I delight in your law.
71 It is good for me that I was afflicted,
that I might learn your statutes.
72 The law of your mouth is better to me
than thousands of gold and silver pieces.”

What is God’s value to you? Could that value be measured financially? Would you exchange your love of God for a bribe? A large bribe? The psalmist cannot be bought.

Be like the psalmist.
