God Among the Nations?

God Among the Nations?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who sing praises to God among the nations. In Jesus’ name, amen.

One-to-one evangelism today has changed. Mass media has allowed the Gospel to spread around the globe. Unreached people groups scattered among the nations can hear the Good News of Christ.

David, the psalmist, in Psalm 57:7-11 affirms his steadfast commitment to God.

“My heart is steadfast, O God,
my heart is steadfast!
I will sing and make melody!
Awake, my glory!
Awake, O harp and lyre!
I will awake the dawn!
I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing praises to you among the nations.
For your steadfast love is great to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the clouds.

Be exalted, O God, above the heavens!
Let your glory be over all the earth!”

In additional to global reach, personal evangelism helps new disciples grow in their faith. If you are not globally minded, will you still sing praises? To friends? To neighbors? Wherever you are, spread the Gospel, so God gets the glory.

In the Midst of Lions?

In the Midst of Lions?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who feel like their soul is in the midst of lions. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Surrounded? Outnumbered? Facing terror? Then stop and realize who God is. He is more powerful than all the enemies combined. He is sovereign.

In Psalm 57:4-6 (ESV) overwhelming odds are juxtaposed against the psalmist’s exalting God.

“My soul is in the midst of lions;
I lie down amid fiery beasts—
the children of man, whose teeth are spears and arrows,
whose tongues are sharp swords.

Be exalted, O God, above the heavens!
Let your glory be over all the earth!

They set a net for my steps;
my soul was bowed down.
They dug a pit in my way,
but they have fallen into it themselves. Selah

Even though enemies are setting traps, they fall victim themselves. Stay alert. Don’t be overcome by insurmountable odds. Rather, acknowledge God’s glory.

Need God’s Mercy?

Need God’s Mercy?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who cry out to God for his mercy. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Synonyms for the word mercy include kindness, sympathy, understanding, and compassion. Are you ready for a God who is so merciful that he will forgive confessed sin? No matter how extreme, God will extend his mercy and restore a person to right relationship with himself.

Psalm 57:1-3 is about the psalmist’s appeal for mercy.

“Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me,
for in you my soul takes refuge;
in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge,
till the storms of destruction pass by.
I cry out to God Most High,
to God who fulfills his purpose for me.
He will send from heaven and save me;
he will put to shame him who tramples on me. Selah

Take a minute and reflect. Are you in need of God’s mercy in your life? Ask God to minister to you. Now.

What Can Man Do To Me?

What Can Man Do To Me?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who when faced with fear respond, “What can man do to me?” In Jesus’ name, amen.

Believers have the potential to be bold. Why are so many so timid?

In Psalm 56:10-13, the psalmist’s fears are under control because of his trust in God. He says that he will render thank offerings:

“In God, whose word I praise,
in the Lord, whose word I praise,
in God I trust; I shall not be afraid.
What can man do to me?

I must perform my vows to you, O God;
I will render thank offerings to you.
For you have delivered my soul from death,
yes, my feet from falling,
that I may walk before God
in the light of life.”

Think about David’s relationship with God. David credits God with delivering his soul from death. Do you see God has having done the same for you in that he provides eternal life for all those who believe? Consider John 3:16. Is it time for you to become more bold in praising God and sharing the Good News with others? Will you let God handle your fears? Trust him.

Fear is Real?

Fear is Real?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who are afraid. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Fear is real. Some will say that the letters in the word F E A R are an acronym of the words: False, Evidence, Appearing, Real. Not all fears are generated by false evidence.

We learn in Psalm 56:1-4 (ESV) that the psalmist, David, had reason to be afraid.

“Be gracious to me, O God, for man tramples on me;
all day long an attacker oppresses me;
my enemies trample on me all day long,
for many attack me proudly.
When I am afraid,
I put my trust in you.
In God, whose word I praise,
in God I trust; I shall not be afraid.
What can flesh do to me?”

Do you find yourself fearful? Read Scripture. Pray. Ask God for his help. When the psalmist says, “I shall not be afraid,” that may be easy to say and harder to live.

Don’t give up on God. He will walk with anyone through the emotional roller coaster of fear.

God Will Sustain?

God Will Sustain?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know God sustains them. In Jesus’ name, amen.

In Mathew 11:28 (ESV) Jesus says, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

David, the psalmist, expresses similar sentiment in Psalm 55:22-23.

“Cast your burden on the Lord,
and he will sustain you;
he will never permit
the righteous to be moved.

But you, O God, will cast them down
into the pit of destruction;
men of blood and treachery
shall not live out half their days.
But I will trust in you.”

Are you oppressed by the wicked? Is your heart in anguish? God will sustain.
