Whoever Walks in Integrity!

Whoever Walks in Integrity!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who walk in integrity. In Jesus’s name, amen.

Synonyms for the word “integrity” include honest, purity, rectitude, and virtue.

Proverbs 10:6-9 (ESV) is a section of contrasts between the righteous and those who are not.

“Blessings are on the head of the righteous,
but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence,
The memory of the righteous is a blessing,
but the name of the wicked will rot.
The wise of heart will receive commandments,
but a babbling fool will come to ruin.
Whoever walks in integrity walks securely,
but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.”

There is a clear distinction within each of these verses. Will you live as a person of integrity or not? If not, it is not too late to reverse course.

Work Hard!

Work Hard!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who work hard. In Jesus’s name, amen.

Proverbs 6:6-8 (ESV) is a well know proverb about ants.

“Go to the ant, O sluggard;
consider her ways, and be wise.
Without having any chief,
officer, or ruler,
she prepares her bread in summer
and gathers her food in harvest.”

Proverbs 10:5 (ESV), in contrast, is about a two people. One is industrious and the other is not.

“He who gathers in summer is a prudent son,
but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who brings shame.”

Which of these two people do you aspire to be? The sluggard and “he who sleeps” seem to be very much alike. Pray and ask God to direct your paths. Be like the prudent son.

Avoid Wickedness!

Avoid Wickedness!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who avoid wickedness. In Jesus’s name, amen.

In the media and in real life the wicked seem to prosper. They seem to have all they want. Yet, scripture has a warning. There will come a time when fortunes reverse for those who are wicked.

In Proverbs 10:2-3 (ESV), God uses King Solomon to convey his message about the wicked. He contrasts the wicked with the righteous.

“Treasures gained by wickedness do not profit,
but righteousness delivers from death.
The Lord does not let the righteous go hungry,
but he thwarts the craving of the wicked.”

Ultimately, the wicked will not prosper. Turn away from wickedness while there is still time.

Wise vs. Foolish Children!

Wise vs. Foolish Children!

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those raising children. In Jesus’s name, amen.

Today, some parents tell their children they are proud of them. While decades ago, some parents did not praise their children because they thought the child would become prideful or worse.

Proverbs 10:1 (ESV) tells how parents can be affected by a wise son verses a foolish one.

“A wise son makes a glad father,
but a foolish son is a sorrow to his mother.”

Some children are starved for their parent’s approval. A father would be glad to have a wise child. How difficult it would be for the mother of a foolish child.

Instill wisdom in the next generation.

What’s The Difference Between The Scoffer and the Wise Person?

What’s The Difference Between The Scoffer and the Wise Person?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who will reprove a wise person. In Jesus’s name, amen.

The synonyms for the word “reprove” include rebuke, scold, and reprimand.

The synonyms for the word “scoff” include jeer, jibe, sneer, poke, and insult.

Proverbs 9:7-12 (ESV) shows the difference between a scoffer and a wise person.

“Whoever corrects a scoffer gets himself abuse,
and he who reproves a wicked man incurs injury.
Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you;
reprove a wise man, and he will love you.
Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser;
teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.
For by me your days will be multiplied,
and years will be added to your life.
If you are wise, you are wise for yourself;
if you scoff, you alone will bear it.”

Which are you? Do you ever fall into the category of a scoffer? Or, are you willing to accept rebuke and criticism and change for the better?
