The Sheep of His Pasture?

The Sheep of His Pasture?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for all those who realize they are the sheep of your pasture. In Jesus’ name, amen.

“Come Let Us Worship and Bow Down” from Maranatha! Music includes lyrics by David Doherty.

Come, let us worship and bow down
And kneel before the Lord, our Maker
Come, let us worship and bow down
And kneel before the Lord, our Maker.

He is our God, He is our God
We are the people of His pasture
He is our God, He is our God
We are the sheep of His hand.

Psalm 100:1-5 (ESV) includes a line in verse three about the sheep of his pasture that mirrors the sentiment of the song.

“Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!

Know that the Lord, he is God!
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!

For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.”

I hope you are one of the sheep of God’s pasture. Rejoice if you are. If not, why not draw close to God, and he will draw close to you.

Set Free Those Doomed to Die?

Set Free Those Doomed to Die?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those you set free who were doomed to die. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Freedom. It is something that believers and followers of Jesus experience. Rather than being given the freedom to sin, greater freedom is from obeying God’s call upon one’s life.

Meant for future generations, Psalm 102:18-22 (ESV) was recorded to reach far beyond the present.

“Let this be recorded for a generation to come,
so that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord:
that he looked down from his holy height;
from heaven the Lord looked at the earth,
to hear the groans of the prisoners,
to set free those who were doomed to die,
that they may declare in Zion the name of the Lord,
and in Jerusalem his praise,
when peoples gather together,
and kingdoms, to worship the Lord.”

Will future generations know about how you became a believer and follower of Jesus? Record your testimony, so yet unborn children have a chance to come to know the risen Lord.

Eyes On The Worthless?

Eyes On The Worthless?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who will not set before their eyes anything that is worthless. In Jesus’ name, amen.

There are a lot of worthy things to see, yet there is also a lot that is worthless. Among all the movies and television shows available for viewing, do you watch shows that are edifying, or do you spend your time watching something God would consider worthless?

Take a minute and reassess your preferences from the perspective of Psalm 101:3 (ESV).

“I will not set before my eyes
anything that is worthless.
I hate the work of those who fall away;
it shall not cling to me.”

Are you willing to change to more fully comply to God’s standard? If need be, take a break from routines that tempt. Repent. Go. Sin no more..

Holy Is He?

Holy Is He?

Dear Lord, I pray to you for wisdom because you are holy.

While reading Psalm 99:1-9 (ESV) notice the words, “Holy is he!” are repeated twice, and the words, “Lord God is holy!” appear one time.

“The Lord reigns; let the peoples tremble!
He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake!
The Lord is great in Zion;
he is exalted over all the peoples.
Let them praise your great and awesome name!
Holy is he!
The King in his might loves justice.
You have established equity;
you have executed justice
and righteousness in Jacob.
Exalt the Lord our God;
worship at his footstool!
Holy is he!
Moses and Aaron were among his priests,
Samuel also was among those who called upon his name.
They called to the Lord, and he answered them.
In the pillar of the cloud he spoke to them;
they kept his testimonies
and the statute that he gave them.
O Lord our God, you answered them;
you were a forgiving God to them,
but an avenger of their wrongdoings.
Exalt the Lord our God,
and worship at his holy mountain;
for the Lord our God is holy!”

Psalm 99:3 is focused on praise while Psalm 9:5 and 9 are focused on worship. It is awesome to think that holy God thinks about us. Let us worship and bow down. We are his creation, and he sent his son to save us.

A Joyful Noise to the Lord?

A Joyful Noise to the Lord?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who make a joyful noise to the Lord. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The psalms are filled with praise for what God has and will do.

Psalm 98:4-9 (ESV) describes a full-blown praise service including musical instruments. The scene unfolds as all the earth joins in the celebration.

“Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth;
break forth into joyous song and sing praises!
Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre,
with the lyre and the sound of melody!
With trumpets and the sound of the horn
make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord!

Let the sea roar, and all that fills it;
the world and those who dwell in it!
Let the rivers clap their hands;
let the hills sing for joy together
before the Lord, for he comes
to judge the earth.
He will judge the world with righteousness,
and the peoples with equity.”

Take more than a moment to praise God. Listen as the earth sings God’s praise.

Preserve the Lives of Saints?

Preserve the Lives of Saints?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know you preserve the lives of the saints and deliver them from the land of the wicked. In Jesus’ name, amen.

God’s miraculous intervention in the lives of believers is not new. In Acts 16:25-34 Paul and Silas were in prison praying and singing after being beaten. When an earthquake struck, their bonds came loose and the doors opened. Paul and Silas and the prisoners stayed where they were and the jailer and his household came to believe in Jesus.

Psalm 97:10-12 (ESV) not only tells the faithful to hate evil, but that God preserves them, and they should rejoice.

“O you who love the Lord, hate evil!
He preserves the lives of his saints;
he delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
Light is sown for the righteous,
and joy for the upright in heart.
Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous,
and give thanks to his holy name!”

The words of the song “Amazing Grace” are famous.

“Amazing grace
How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I’m found
Was blind, but now I see”

God, indeed, delivers us from the land of the wicked. Have you been delivered? If not, seek first the Kingdom of God.
