Rock, Stronghold, Deliverer?

Rock, Stronghold, Deliverer?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know you are their rock, their stronghold, and deliverer.

Ephesians 3:20-21 (ESV) says,

“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”

In Psalm 144:1-2 (ESV) we hear David testify about God.

“Blessed be the Lord, my rock,
who trains my hands for war,
and my fingers for battle;
he is my steadfast love and my fortress,
my stronghold and my deliverer,
my shield and he in whom I take refuge,
who subdues peoples under me.”

These two verses have insights about the God of the Universe. Have you taken time to trust the one God who provides abundantly, and who David calls, My rock?

Fled to You for Refuge?

Fled to You for Refuge?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who have fled to you for refuge. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Martin Luther wrote “A Might Fortress Is Our God.” The first verse is…

“A mighty fortress is our God,
a bulwark never failing;
our helper he, amid the flood
of mortal ills prevailing.
For still our ancient foe
does seek to work us woe;
his craft and power are great,
and armed with cruel hate,
on earth is not his equal.”

In Psalm 143:9-10 (ESV), the psalmist, David, turns to God and asks for refuge.

“Deliver me from my enemies, O Lord!
I have fled to you for refuge.
Teach me to do your will,
for you are my God!
Let your good Spirit lead me
on level ground!”

Do you need a bulwark never failing? Do you need refuge from enemies? Ask God. Let his Spirit lead.

Answer Me Quickly?

Answer Me Quickly?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who need a quick answer from God. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Ever felt a sense of urgency? Ever felt like you are “near the end of your rope.”

In Psalm 143:7-8 (ESV) it would appear that time is of the essence. The psalmist, David, needs his answer from God. Now!

“Answer me quickly, O Lord!
My spirit fails!
Hide not your face from me,
lest I be like those who go down to the pit.
Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love,
for in you I trust.
Make me know the way I should go,
for to you I lift up my soul.”

Are you willing to acknowledge that God knows the way you should go? Say, “Yes.” Will you, like David, lift up your soul? Say, “Yes.”

Meditate On All The Lord Has Done?

Meditate On All The Lord Has Done?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who meditate on all you have done. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Joshua 1:8 (ESV) says,

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

In Psalm 143:1-6 (ESV) the psalmist, David, is pleading with God for mercy and refers to meditating.

“Hear my prayer, O Lord;
give ear to my pleas for mercy!
In your faithfulness answer me, in your righteousness!
Enter not into judgment with your servant,
for no one living is righteous before you.

For the enemy has pursued my soul;
he has crushed my life to the ground;
he has made me sit in darkness like those long dead.
Therefore my spirit faints within me;
my heart within me is appalled.

I remember the days of old;
I meditate on all that you have done;
I ponder the work of your hands.
I stretch out my hands to you;
my soul thirsts for you like a parched land. Selah

Ever feel like David? Has the enemy pursued your soul? Has he crushed your life to the ground? Has he made you sit in darkness like those long dead? Respond as David did. Meditate. Ponder the works of God’s hands.

Increase Your Odds of Success

Increase Your Odds of Success

Feeling overwhelmed?
It is time to make a list!

Not just any list…

Write ALL you have going for you.

That’s right.

Right now, jot down a personal inventory of the attributes that equip you to succeed.

Don’t be modest.

It’s time to make a list that will prove to yourself you have the seeds of greatness.

If you have been procrastinating, begin a new project or get back to the one that is stalled out.

Based on your list, you have what it takes to finish what you’ve started.

Even if the odds are not in your favor, make progress and celebrate every victory.

When success seems illusive, look at the list to be reminded of how you can be an overcomer.

Post your list where you can see it.
Read it out loud. Often.

Now that you know your strengths, lean into them, and get to work.

Although your list is not a 100% guarantee of success, reminding yourself of who you are and what you are capable of has increased your odds.

Have a great week!

Plead for Mercy?

Plead for Mercy?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who plead for mercy. In Jesus’ name, amen.

In modern warfare, booby traps are used to kill, maim, or otherwise incapacitate an enemy.

In Psalm 142:1-7 (ESV) the psalmist, David, is concerned about the traps set for him, and he cries out to the Lord.

“With my voice I cry out to the Lord;
with my voice I plead for mercy to the Lord.
I pour out my complaint before him;
I tell my trouble before him.

When my spirit faints within me,
you know my way!
In the path where I walk
they have hidden a trap for me.
Look to the right and see:
there is none who takes notice of me;
no refuge remains to me;
no one cares for my soul.

I cry to you, O Lord;
I say, “You are my refuge,
my portion in the land of the living.”
Attend to my cry,
for I am brought very low!
Deliver me from my persecutors,
for they are too strong for me!
Bring me out of prison,
that I may give thanks to your name!
The righteous will surround me,
for you will deal bountifully with me.”

Are some people setting traps for you? Are you feeling persecuted? Whatever your circumstances, be like David, and cry out to God.
