All Nations Shall Worship?

All Nations Shall Worship?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for all those who recognize only you are holy, and all nations shall come to worship you. In Jesus’ name, amen.

According to the notes in the English Standard Version of the Bible, the words of Psalm 86:9 include some words of the song found in Revelation 15:4.

First, look at Psalm 86:9 (ESV).

“All the nations you have made shall come
and worship before you, O Lord,
and shall glorify your name.”

Revelation 15:3-4 (ESV) says,

“And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying,

‘Great and amazing are your deeds,
O Lord God the Almighty!
Just and true are your ways,
O King of the nations!
Who will not fear, O Lord,
and glorify your name?
For you alone are holy.
All nations will come
and worship you,
for your righteous acts have been revealed.’”

Praise God if you are in the habit of worshiping God. Imagine what it will be like when all the nations do likewise. Give thanks for how God knit together Scripture and integrated the Old Testament and the New Testament.

Cry Out To God All Day?

Cry Out To God All Day?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who cry to you all day. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Although David wants God to hear his plea, in Psalm 86:1-6 (ESV) he expresses how great his need is for God.

“Incline your ear, O Lord, and answer me,
for I am poor and needy.
Preserve my life, for I am godly;
save your servant, who trusts in you—you are my God.
Be gracious to me, O Lord,
for to you do I cry all the day.
Gladden the soul of your servant,
for to you, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.
For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving,
abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.
Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer;
listen to my plea for grace.”

Are you in the habit of crying out to God all day? If not, stop and take more than a few minutes and cry out to God. Tell him what is on your mind. Make your plea. Ask God to come along side and help you.

The Lord Will Give What Is Good?

The Lord Will Give What Is Good?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know the Lord will give what is good. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Whether a personal revival or a large-scale one, people’s lives change. At the outset of Psalm 85, the psalmist wonders if God will continue to be angry. Later, the psalmist is hopeful.

In Psalm 85:10-13 (ESV) the psalmist is confident when he begins by saying, “Yes.”

“Steadfast love and faithfulness meet;
righteousness and peace kiss each other.
Faithfulness springs up from the ground,
and righteousness looks down from the sky.
Yes, the Lord will give what is good,
and our land will yield its increase.
Righteousness will go before him
and make his footsteps a way.”

God can bless abundantly more than we ask or imagine. The Lord can give not only bountiful crops for the land, he can also change our hearts. Are you open to change? There is no time like the present.

Salvation Is Near?

Salvation Is Near?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know salvation is near to those who fear him. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Life can change in a moment. An individual can be at the lowest point in life and cry out to the Lord. When he or she answers, that person’s life can start over as one who has been born again.

Psalm 85:8-9 (ESV) is about salvation being near.

“Let me hear what God the Lord will speak,
for he will speak peace to his people, to his saints;
but let them not turn back to folly.
Surely his salvation is near to those who fear him,
that glory may dwell in our land.”

Are circumstances such that you or someone you know is at a low point? Listen. If you are the one at a low point, pray. If you know someone in crisis or otherwise at a low point, reach out and share your faith. Pray for and with whoever it is.

Restore Us Again?

Restore Us Again?

Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those know they need to be restored. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The notes to the English Standard Version say, “Many churches use this psalm [Psalm 85] at Christmastime, the supreme occasion when God was favorable to his land and spoke peace to his saints.”

God is in the restoration business if a person is open. Approach God humbly. Seek and you shall find.

Israel had wandered far from the Lord’s precepts. Thus, the psalmists in Psalm 85:4-7 asks if the Lord’s anger will persist.

Psalm 85:7-7 (ESV) poses the questions and ends on an upbeat note.

“Lord, you were favorable to your land;
you restored the fortunes of Jacob.
You forgave the iniquity of your people;
you covered all their sin. Selah
You withdrew all your wrath;
you turned from your hot anger.

Restore us again, O God of our salvation,
and put away your indignation toward us!
Will you be angry with us forever?
Will you prolong your anger to all generations?
Will you not revive us again,
that your people may rejoice in you?
Show us your steadfast love, O Lord,
and grant us your salvation.”

This section of Psalm 85 asks God to show his steadfast love and grant salvation. Do you need to be restored? Humble yourself and seek God. Pray now.
