Dear Lord, I pray for wisdom for those who know they are the apple of his eye.
In A Hog on Ice & Other Curious Expressions we learn that the apple of your eye is the pupil. The book goes on to say that injury to the pupil can cause blindness. The notes in the English Standard Version also explain the expressing that is a “colorful biblical term for the pupil.”
King David writes in Psalm 17:8-9 (ESV):
“Keep me as the apple of your eye;
hide me in the shadow of your wings,
from the wicked who do me violence,
my deadly enemies who surround me.”
King David wants the Lord to always keep him in view. We need to ask the Lord to do the same for us. The notes in English Standard Version go on to say that “Shadow of your wings always refers to a place of safety.”
Ask the Lord to keep you as the apple of his eye. Praise God he see you. Ask to God to keep you in the shadow of his wings. Say safe and God bless you.
